Langdon Obit PicFred Langdon, 84, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, in Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with the Dr. Roger Smith, pastor, and Craig Albracht, pastor of Hillside Christian Church South officiating.  A private burial was held at St. Francis Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Fred was born July 13, 1930, in Springer, N.M. to Frank and Bryan Troth Langdon. One of five graduates of the 1950 graduating class of Farley High School, Fred was a basketball standout and was known as the “Farley Flash.” After moving to Borger, Texas in 1951, he became a member of the Phillips 66’ers Semi-Pro Basketball Team while working at the Phillips Refinery. In 1962, he moved his family to Amarillo when he took a mechanic job with Courtesy Lincoln-Mercury. The dealership changed ownership and locations over the years, but Fred remained loyal and moved with the dealership each time until his retirement in 2002.

His real passion was Amarillo High School Sandies’ Football. Beginning in the 1980’s, he never missed a home game and only a few out-of-town games. When his illness would not allow him to attend the games, he listened to the radio and read the game coverage in the Amarillo Globe-News.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Survivors include one brother, Ben Woolley and wife Ann of Dalhart; two sons, Joe Langdon and wife Judy and Jim Langdon, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Shaun Wink and husband Frank, of Panhandle; grandchildren, Mike Wink and wife Stephanie of Panhandle, Jimmy Wink and wife Michele of Canyon, Tommy Conner and wife Tammy, Lesa Hamilton and husband Mark and Misti Wieck and husband Andy, all of Amarillo; thirteen great-grandchildren, Brandon Jones, Brittany McAlister, Nathaniel McAlister, Nicholas Wink, Christian Wink, Destiny Williams, Megan Williams, Dustin Williams, Taylor Wink, Langdon Wink, Ashley Conner, Katelyn Conner and Derek Hamilton a great-great-grandchild, Zoe Swindell; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to AHS Sandies Football Boosters,  4225 Danbury St, Amarillo, TX 79109.

  1. May you Rest in Peace Grandpa Fred until we met again. We will miss you and we love you but we will always have our memories.
