Celaya Obit PicBertha Celaya, 65, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014.

Prayer services will be at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at Iglesia Bautista Fuente Viva, 2709 S. Manhattan St. with the Rev. Fredy Pavez, pastor, officiating.   Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Bertha was born June 19, 1949, in Ballinger.  She graduated from West Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in education.  Bertha worked for Hereford Independent School District and Amarillo Independent School District until she retired in 2004, after 30 years of service.

Bertha married the love of her life, Savas Celaya on Oct. 29, 1966.  They celebrated 38 years of marriage together.  He preceded her in death in December 2004.

Bertha loved the outdoors and camping.  She was a member of IBFV.

Survivors include a son, Steve Celaya and Randi Belflower of Amarillo; a daughter, Melissa and Efrain Ramos of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene and Thomas Delgado and Carol and Herb Morales, all of Amarillo; three brothers, Charlie and Mary Ann Arellano of Amarillo, Gilbert and Janice Arellano and David and Linda Arellano, all of Hereford; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

  1. Bertha was such a wonderful lady–a great sister to her siblings and mother to her children. My condolences go out to the family. You are such a strong, caring and connected family! May God be with you in your time of sorrow!
