Bobby Joe Baker – May 15, 2017

Bobby Joe Baker, 83, of Amarillo passed away peacefully Monday, May 15, 2017.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2017, at South Georgia Baptist Church with Mike Martin officiating.  Burial will be at 3:00 p.m., in Brown Cemetery in Sunray.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Bobby was born June 1, 1933, in Giles to Joseph and Mittie Baker.  He graduated from Hedley High School and moved to Sunray in 1969.

Bobby purchased Thriftway Grocery Store and operated it for more than 37 years until his retirement.  He was a member of Sunray Baptist Church until moving to Amarillo and joined South Georgia Baptist Church.

He married Valda Day on Feb. 20, 1955, in Perryton.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Candace Cae Baker.

Survivors include his wife, Valda Baker, of Amarillo; a daughter, Kim Hunnicutt and husband Alan of Amarillo; a son, Joe Baker and wife Amy of Frisco;  a sister, Margaret Lair of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Meredith Gilbert and husband Brian of Amarillo, Brian Hunnicutt and wife Stephanie of Richardson, and Emily and Candace Baker, both of Frisco; and a great-grandchild, Grady Gilbert.

The family suggests memorials be made to Snack Pak 4 Kids program at South Georgia Baptist Church.
