Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 6, 2017, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Joe Kirkwood officating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Patricia was born on January, 25, 1960, in Clayton, NM to Juanita Blea. She married Kirk Harrison on May 23, 1995, in Canyon, Texas.  She was a homemaker, avid volunteer and member of Family and Friends Worship Center.

Survivors include her husband, Kirk Harrison; sons, Theodore Villalobos, Jr., of Florida, Michael Villalobos, of Lubbock, Patrick Villalobos and wife April, of Vernon; daughters, Heather Cardenas and husband Michael, Leticia Cortez and husband Greg, and Rita Smith and husband Bryan, all of Lubbock; sisters, Sofia Salas, of Muleshoe, Vivian Hall and husband Charles, of Stratford,  Virginia Martinez, of Odessa, and Angie Arriaga and husband Marcos; a brother, Max Martinez; and two grandchildren, Gregory and Nichole.

Spurlock Obit PicStanley Boyd Spurlock, 70, of Stratford, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, in First United Methodist Church Stratford with the Rev. Steve Ulrey officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Stratford, 311 N. Main.

Boyd was born Nov. 27, 1946, in Amarillo to Alvin and Ramona Spurlock.  He was raised on the family farm southeast of Stratford.  Boyd was a Navy veteran.

Boyd had served as Sherman County Commissioner, loved golfing, farming and his family.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church Stratford.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Lynne Doss and husband Larry of Jonesboro, Ark.; two sons, Dru Spurlock and wife Irma of Stratford and Jason Spurlock and wife Terri, of Lester, NY; his mother, Ramona Spurlock, of Amarillo; a sister, Kay Fuqua, of Amarillo; his love, Debbie Born of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Viewing will be from Noon – 6:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Boxwell Brothers in Stratford.

John Frank Romero – November 17, 2016

John Frank Romero, 84, of Stratford, died Thursday, November 17, 2016.

A Rosary Service and Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stratford with Father Cesar Gomez officiating.  Burial will be in the Stratford Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Stratford, 311 N. Main.

John was born on October 26, 1932 in Farley, New Mexico to Felipe & Berlinda Romero.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was a cattleman and had worked in the oil and gas industry.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Romero.

He is survived by his wife Alice Romero; a son, Anthony Romero of Stratford; five sisters; five brothers; three grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Maria Dolores Zavala – September 4, 2016

Maria was born on April 28, 1956 in Big Spring, Texas to Ramon and Magdalena Jurado.  She graduated from Stratford High School in1975 and had worked as a CNA for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Vicente Zavala of Mexico; a daughter, Lisa Jurado of Stratford; two sons, Vicente Zavala III of Stratford and Steven Zavala of Dumas; a sister, Ramona Perez of Dumas; and eleven grandchildren.

William “Bill” Mires – May 4, 2016

William “Bill” Mires, 71, of Stratford, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016.  Graveside services will be at 9:30 A.M. on Mires Obit PicMonday, May 9, 2016 at the Stratford Cemetery.  Memorial Services will follow at 10:30 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, 702 N. 3rd St., Stratford, Texas with Rev. Ron Whitt, pastor, and Ralph Mireles, officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Stratford.

Bill was born on May 29, 1944 in Lubbock, Texas to William and Opal Mires.  He graduated from Lamesa High School and earned his bachelors degree from West Texas State University.  He coached football, basketball, and track for many years in Stinnett and Stratford.  He had worked for the Sherman County Conservation Board and had owned and operated the Stratford Gym for over twenty years.  He had helped with CASA.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Bill dedicated his entire life to motivating and mentoring young kids. He used both his spiritual faith and work ethic to mold many men and women through athletics.

He married Kay Johnson on October 16, 1965 in Hamlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clark Mires.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Mires of Stratford; a son, Doug Mires of Ok. City; a daughter, Mandy Gomez and husband Jr. of Crestview, Fl.; six grandchildren, Taylor Mires, Kayla Mires, Reese Gomez, Rowan Gomez, Walker Gomez, and Reagan Gomez.

The family will be at 1021 Purnell and suggest memorials be sent to the Community Food Ministries of the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 390, Stratford, Tx. 79084.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Boxwell Brothers Memorial Chapel, 500 N. Maddox.  Burial will be the Stratford Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors at Dumas.

Gary was born on April 11, 1955 in Dumas to Jimmy and Dorothy Pool.  He graduated from Stratford High School.  He later graduated from Ross Aviation School in Tulsa, Ok.  He was a spray pilot for over 35 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and drinking beer.  He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Gary married Mary Husmann on August 27, 1977 in Stratford.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary; two sons, Jeremy and wife Heather of Amarillo, McLain and wife Jenna of Stratford; five grandchildren, Zeke, Emerson, Mary Quinn, Libby, and Mary Clara; a twin brother, Jerry Pool; a brother, Ronnie Pool; and a sister Linda Holland.

Jesse Carl Smith – February 11, 2014

Jesse Carl Smith, 67, of Dumas, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014.

 

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Stratford Cemetery in Stratford.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox Ave.

 

Jesse was born Dec. 12, 1946, in Dalhart to J.W. and Marthy Smith.  He enjoyed racing cars, building model cars and relaxing.  Jesse was a Baptist.

 

Survivors include his brother, James E. Smith of Stratford; and two daughters, Amanda Dretske of Stratford and Shelli Thomas of Crosbyton.

Magdalena was born Dec. 4, 1932, in Fort Stockton to Higinio and Dolores Urias. She married Eliseo Isaias on Feb. 17, 1986, in Clayton, N.M.

She loved to cook, sew needlepoint, and listen to music and dance. She spent a lot of time with her grandchildren and was a member of the Catholic church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ramon Jurado; two sisters, Juanita Urias and Natividad Urias; and a brother, Lupe Urias.

Survivors include her husband, Eliseo Isaias; three daughters, Maria Zavala and Lisa Jurado, both of Stratford, and Ramona Perez of Midland; three brothers, Higinio Urias of Amarillo, Joe Urias of Kansas City, Mo., and Calistro Urias of Slaton; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

 

Sharon Burnett – August 17, 2013

Sharon Burnett, 66, of Dumas, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013.

Graveside services were at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at the Dumas Cemetery with Pastor Frank Gordoa officiatingBurnett Obit Photo. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox.

Sharon was born on March 5, 1947, in Wellington, to William and Mary Carter. She graduated from Dumas High School in 1965. On Nov. 27, 1965, Sharon married Mike Burnett. She was an excellent homemaker and was involved with Girl Scouts, 4-H, and worked at the YMCA. In the Dumas public schools, Sharon worked in the After School Program  helping children learn to read, and she also worked in Cornerstone Christian Academy. Sharon had a servant’s heart and loved helping educate, mentor, and nurture children. She was a member of Cornerstone Church and had also been a hospice volunteer.
Sharon enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and spending time with her grandkids. She lived and breathed for them. Her family and friends were the most important thing to her. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Burnett of Dumas; two daughters, Lisa Hokanson and husband Dennis of Dumas, Amy Long and husband Malcolm of Stratford; six grandchildren, Ashton Hokanson and wife Tory, Hailey Girdner and husband Edgar, Dylan Hokanson, Haden Long, Adelyn Hokanson, Cooper Hokanson; one great-grandchild, Emersyn Girdner; one sister, Kay Blake and husband Bill of Amarillo; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will be at 111 Amherst Ave., and suggests memorials be made to Gideon’s or your favorite charity.

 

Franklin Dan Vaughn – August 9, 2013

Franklin Dan Vaughn, 74, of Stratford died Friday, Aug. 9, 2013.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, in First Christian Church in Stratford with Gary Smith officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Frank was born Feb. 18, 1939, in Tulia to JC and Lorene Vaughn. He was the second of three children. He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard.

Frank moved to Stratford in 1963 and met and married Barbara Stublefield. They were married for 49 years.

Frank worked for Stratford ISD for 30 years as the bus foreman/mechanic. Upon retirement, he decided to continue working as the manager of Consumers and eventually retired again only to go work for Sherman County Bridge and Maintenance.

Frank was very involved with competitive shooting sports and taught many members of 4-H to shoot rifles. He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association, Texas State Rifle Association, where he was the indoor pistol director for 21 years, Oklahoma Rifle Association, Inc., and the New Mexico Shooting Association.

He was preceded in death by his father, JC Vaughn; his mother, Lorene Vaughn Duncan; his stepfather, Everett Duncan; and two daughters, Teena and Diane Vaughn.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Vaughn; a daughter, LaQuita Graham and husband Michael of  Texhoma, Okla.;  a sister, Margaret Holligan and husband EB of Melbourne, Fla.; a brother, Edd  Vaughn and wife Eunice all of Melbourne, Fla.; and  three granddaughters, Caitlin, Mary and Teena.

The family suggests memorials be to First Christian Church, 515 N. Pearl St, Stratford, TX 79084.
