Celebration of Life service will be at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson, pastor, officiating. Private family burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Gary was born July 12, 1937 in Champaign, Illinois to Rev. Homer McKinley and Mrs. Martha Gill McKinley. His school years were spent in midwest locations, where his dad pastored. He met Glendene Walraven in Shamrock. They were married at the First Baptist Church in Shamrock on January 24, 1958. They both then attended West Texas State University in Canyon. Upon graduation, they moved to Amarillo to begin careers and raise their family. Two children were born to them.
Gary was an active member of First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Barnabus Bible Study Class. He was a deacon and felt honored when he was Deacon of the Day. Gary loved to sing and was a member of the Alpha Choir. He had worked as a printing salesman for over fifty years. He traveled throughout five states and made many friends over the years.
Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and a brother.
Survivors include his wife, Glendene McKinley; a daughter, Susan Thomas and husband Sherman; a son, Mark McKinley and wife Jolene; five grandchildren, Lindsey Rogers and husband Jeremy, Kyle Thomas and wife Hayley, Nigel McKinley, Fury Barber, Fenix Barber; and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church Music or Building Fund at 1208 S. Tyler, Amarillo, Texas 79101 or John Hopkins Pancreatic Research at the Kimmel Cancer Center, P.O. Box 17029 Baltimore, MD 21297-1029.
