Maurice McClish – August 13, 2017

Maurice McClish, 91, of Lake Greenbelt died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017

A memorial gathering will be at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Maurice was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Amarillo to William Chamberlain McClish and Pearl McClish. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1944, where he played for the Yannigans.  Maurice furthered his education at Northwest Missouri State Teacher College followed by a stint in the Navy during World War II.

He was a big Amarillo High School football fan, attending every game, including away games until the end of the 2016 season. He loved water skiing and entertaining all of his lake friends “Family”.  For the past 20 years, Maurice sang for the residents at four Amarillo nursing homes driving each week from Clarendon.   Another passion was making and watching home movies.

Since 1968, Maurice had been a member of First Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; after 26 years of marriage, his wife, Nell Carter, died in 2011; and four brothers, Felix, Elwood “Mac”, W.C. “Bill” and Adrian McClish.

Survivors include his brother, Gary McClish, of Dallas; a son, Kevin McClish, of Amarillo; two daughters, Beverly McClish Prevette, of Norfolk, Virginia; Elizabeth McClish Ray; four stepdaughters, Laquita Gruver and husband, Kurt, of Hudson Oaks, Marita Ross and husband, Brad, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, Ora Switzer and husband, Bryan, of Dallas and Gay Nell Acord, of Pecos, New Mexico; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
