Maxye J. Daniel – August 11, 2017

Maxye J. Daniel, 92, of Amarillo died Friday, Aug. 11, 2017.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, in Westminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. Clay Brown officiating.  Burial will be private.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Maxye was born Sept. 2, 1924, in McCaulley to Jess and Ova Ina McClarney.  As part of a farming family, she moved to Eastland when she was two.  The family relocated to Amherst when she was a sophomore and she graduated high school in 1943.  Maxye attended Texas Tech and graduated with a degree in applied arts, custom design.

Maxye married Lawrence D. Daniel on Dec. 17, 1946 in Amherst.  They moved to Amarillo in 1957 where she went to work at Sears as an interior decorator and later at Suzanne’s for many years.

She was active in the Panhandle Geological Women’s Auxiliary and loved to play a lot of Bridge.  Maxye was a Master Gardener and a member of the Herb Society and Botanical Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence D. Daniel; and two granddaughters, Brittainy and Melanie Daniel.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Daniel McElroy and husband Robert; two sons, David Daniel and wife Katie and Lawrence G. Daniel and wife Gay; eight grandchildren, Justin, Amy, Robin, Shiloh, Jake, Alex, Beka and Erin; several great-grandchildren; two nieces, Jennifer Gunn and husband Bruce and Janis DeLara; a nephew, John McCrory and wife Marilyn; and her furbabies, Maggie and Max.

The family suggests memorials to Amarillo Botanical Gardens, 1400 Streit Dr, Amarillo, TX 79106; or to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2525 Wimberly Rd, Amarillo, TX 79109.

  1. Rest In peace, Grandma Maxye. You’re no longer suffering and you’re reunited with Granddaddy LD, Melanie, and so many more friends and family members who have gone before. You were the last of your generation in our family and will be sorely missed.

    Maxie and Larry were dear friends for many years when we lived in Amarillo. We know that all of you family members are feeling a tremendous loss and we send our thoughts and prayer to each of you. Debbie, Larry and David those days on Janet drive are wonderful memories.
