Robert “Perch” Bridges – August 10, 2016

Robert “Perch” Bridges, 78, of Amarillo died Wednesday, August 10th, 2016.Bridges Obit Photo

He will be dearly missed by his friends, family, and most of all the love of his life, Marilea. Perch and Marilea’s love is a romance greater than any love story ever written. They knew no one could keep them apart and ran off to Clovis, New Mexico to tie the knot. She was 15, and he was 17. They were lucky to share sixty-one years of holy matrimony. If you were blessed enough to spend 3 minutes with Perch Bridges, you learned something great. If you didn’t, then you simply were not paying attention. The man was wisdom, strength, courage, and love personified. He was a self-made man, an entrepreneur, and a barbecue pit master. He was the son of Robert and Lottie Bridges.  He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy: his beloved wife Marilea, and two sons Bo and Denny Bridges. He is also survived by grandchildren: Casi Lyles, Berkley Mitchell, Brittani Campbell, and Mallory Bridges, as well as great-grandchildren: Makenna, Bennet, and Gunnar. His siblings: Dr. Phyllis Bridges of Denton, Texas, Raymond Bridges of Amarillo, and Molly Bridges of Amarillo. A private memorial service has already taken place.

Perch Bridges was one the finest men, I have ever known. His outlook on life was unique, his perspective on the state of the world unsurpassed by political scholars. I was so very proud to be a part of his extended family. I loved him and will miss him for all of my days left on this earth until I see him again on the other side
