Anna Maria Jentzen Evans was born on September 10, 1963 and adopted immediately by Lawrence and Mary Jentzen.  She always felt chosen by her parents, and lucky to grow up on the family farm outside Vega in Oldham County, always taking a moment to tell her friends how her dad dug the basement of their home by hand with a bucket. She enjoyed a real childhood with dogs, friends, dirt bikes, and love. In elementary school, Anna showed great entrepreneurial promise selling chunks of salt lick to the town kids. She made lifelong friends by fighting bullying and abuse, whether she was defending other kids or animals who needed her.

The Jentzens traveled the world, going to Germany, Israel, Italy, Canada, and most of the United States. She lived in Amarillo, Florida, and Oklahoma before returning to Vega. After her beloved daughter, Regina was born, Anna returned to school to realize her dream of becoming a nurse, and graduated in 2004. She cared for many people in the Critical Care unit at NWTH for 10 years, changing hundreds of lives with her love and skill. She often had to have difficult conversations with families, and with tireless compassion put the patient’s best interest first and foremost. She never stopped learning, and took every opportunity to earn more certifications, specializing in nephrology and dialysis.

Anna loved road trips, local history, true crime, camping, float trips, celebrating holidays, and her many rescued pets. She enjoyed studying people and their quirks, washing her own damn dishes, and saving money.  Anna gave Regina every opportunity to explore her interests, and Regina appreciates her Momma for letting her be herself, and supporting her decision to be a firefighter. Anna’s strong resolve got her through months of chemo and radiation, and she exceeded all medical predictions.

The family wishes to thank Dan and Elena Loomis and Alex Whiteside for their love and care during her illness, and the nurses who gave their love and time to Anna Marie. Thank you to BSA Hospice.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, a loss she felt keenly every day.

She is survived by her loving and much loved daughter, Regina, uncle and aunt, Gene and Elsie Fangman, niece Shannon Collins and her children, extended family including Bill and Darlene Martin, and many cousins and beloved friends. She will be missed by her dogs Dottie, Poppy, and Luna.
