David Andrew Carruth – September 19, 2016

carruth-obit-picDavid Andrew Carruth, 70, of Groom, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2016.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, in Southwest Church of Christ with Brian Mashburn officiating.  Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m., in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

David was born Sept. 14, 1946, in Pampa to Ray and Maxine Carruth.  He graduated from Borger High School and then attended Abilene Christian before graduating from Texas A&M with an Ag economics degree.  He then served in the National Guard for 6 years.

David went to work selling insurance for Great American Reserve while living in Irving, where his first son, Cody Ray was born in 1972.  The small family moved to El Paso where his second son, Cash Andrew was born in 1977, then to Austin where Kassi Lynn was born in 1980.  David bought the Carruth Insurance Agency in Farmington, NM in 1992, and then bought the ranch at Groom in 2000, traveling back and forth for 16 years.

David married Sandy Martin on May 13, 2013, in Amarillo.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Carruth, of the home; his mother, Maxine Carruth, of McAllen; two sons, Cody Carruth of Austin and Cash Carruth and wife Adrienne, of Bloomfield, NM; a daughter, Kassi Rohlack and husband Lance, of Round Rock; two brothers, Dennis Carruth and wife Linda, of McAllen and Dane Carruth and wife Stacy, of Waelder; a sister, Diane Farley and husband Dave, of McAllen; and seven grandchildren, Payton, Joshua, Cash Jr., Cable, Conner, Cale and Kollins; a niece, Annie Cleavinger and husband Ty; and two nephews, Clegg Carruth and Zachary Farley.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Unique Individuals School, 7701 S. Coulter, Amarillo, Texas 79119.



James Charles “Jim” Moraniec – August 29, 2013

James Charles “Jim” Moraniec, 79, of Groom, died Thursday, August 29, 2013.Moraniec Obit Photo 

Rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 2, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Arokia Raj Samala as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Groom.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.


Jim was born on August 27, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to Alexander and Angela Moraniec.  He graduated from Marlett high school and then attended the University of Michigan.  He served in the Air Force.  He married Janie Gomez in 1955 and to this union, five children were born.  He worked for Mason and Hanger for 33 years between the Medina and Pantex Plant.  He was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus with the Pampa Council. 


His passions were slow pitch softball, fishing, running the concession stand at Alamo High School for years, working around the school, watching his grandkids and great-grandkids play any type of sport and following them where ever they went, and most importantly his service for his heavenly father.  He took great pride in owning and operating Mighty’s in Groom and Claude and in his later years opening Blessed Mary’s in Groom retiring from there.


He married Carolyn Huskey in 1976.


Jim was preceded in death by his parents.


He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Moraniec of Groom; two daughters, Mary Treadwell and husband Tony of Groom, Angela Quintanilla and husband Sam of Helotes; three sons, Alexander Moraniec and wife Laurel of San Antonio, Tony Moraniec and Deborah Oldham of Amarillo; Thomas Moraniec of Groom; a brother, Robert Moraniec of Burlington, Iowa; seven granddaughters, Melissa Ritter and husband Seth of Groom; Trisha Stephens and husband Tory of Lubbock, Victoria Moraniec of Farmington, Ark., Hailey Quintanilla and Alexandria Quintanilla, both of Helotes, Lacey Barkley and husband Chance of Dallas, Laura Moraniec of San Antonio; four grandsons, Daniel Treadwell and wife Staci of Groom, T.J. Moraniec of Groom; Ryan Moraniec and Phillip Moraniec, both of San Antonio; ten great grandchildren, Hayden, Carson, Sydney, and Aubrey Ritter, Braedon Williams, Trey, Trevor, and Tatum Stephens, Graci and Cooper Treadwell;  step son, Jeff Huskey of Amarillo, step daughter, Leigh Fulgham of Waynoka, Ok; five step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Eldon D. Grimslid – July 3, 2013

Grimslid, 28, of Dallas, formerly of Holmen, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013.Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Hillside Christian Church Chapel, West Campus, 6100 Soncy, with Pat Ford officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

He was born Jan. 4, 1985, in La Crosse, to John and Ava (Albers) Grimslid. Eldon was baptized May 19, 1985, and confirmed Nov. 1, 1998, both at Halfway Creek Lutheran Church in Holmen. He was a 2003 graduate of Holmen High School and a graduate of West Texas A&M University, in Canyon, Texas. Eldon was an exceptional all around athlete who excelled at everything he put his heart into. He was the eighth All American in the Nation for the decathlon. He taught high school English and was an incredible coach and mentor to many young children. Eldon always stood for what was right, no matter what. He will be remembered for his big smile, even bigger heart, and his willingness to help anyone in need. Eldon was an admirable son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, coach, and friend, who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his mother, Ava Grimslid of Onalaska; two sisters, Amanda (nee, Clark) Robenolt, and husband, Brian of Cumming, Ga., and Cassey Grimslid (Matt Neubauer) of Keystone, Colo.; one brother, Zack Grimslid of Amarillo, Texas; two nieces, Peyton and Savannah Ashley and one nephew, Tyler Robenolt, all of Cumming, Ga.; his maternal grandmother, Gladys Albers of Holmen; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and tons of great friends.

Eldon was preceded in death by his father, John Grimslid; maternal grandfather, Harry Albers; uncle, Joel Grimslid; aunt, Ruth Grimslid; his paternal grandparents; and his dog, Fluffer.

Wayne Shaw – May 8, 2011

Wayne Shaw, 85, of Groom, died Sunday, May 8, 2011.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Groom, Texas with Pastor Jonathan Land officiating.  Burial will be in Groom Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Shaw was born March 5, 1926 in Rawls, Texas to C.J. and Medora Shaw.  Living in Groom nearly all of his life, he farmed and took care his parents well into their 90s.  He was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church of Groom.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Lora Odom, Letha Patterson, Lois Eden, and Anna Loyd; and a brother Beryl Shaw.

Survivors include four nieces, Medora Nowell, LaQuitta Polvadore, Elaine Miller, and Linda Bartley; and nephew Gary Bartley.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made to the Groom Fire Department or the Groom Cemetery Association.
