Adela Juarez Andrada, 92, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on October 10, 2026.
A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2026, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, followed by burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo.
Adela was born on April 18, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas, to Inez Ramos and Francisco R. Juarez. She grew up in San Antonio, where she met her husband, Johnney Cruz Andrada, while on a double date with her cousin. The two married on July 19, 1952, and later moved to Amarillo, where Adela worked alongside Johnney and his family at Celia’s Restaurant.
Like many who work in a family business, Adela wore many hats, but her family would say her greatest role was that of homemaker. She helped care for the restaurant by cooking, cleaning, and making sure everyone felt welcome. She brought that same warmth and care into her own home, which was always open to anyone in need of love. Adela was a wonderful cook who believed in always preparing enough food for a crowd. She passed that tradition on to her family, and her tamales and enchiladas were especially loved. Above all, Adela was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured time with her family.
Many cherished memories were made at Tascosa Bowling Alley, Western Bowl, and the Grand Bowling Alley. Adela was a member of a women’s bowling league and traveled throughout Texas to compete. She was also a lifelong bingo enthusiast and enjoyed playing throughout the years.
Adela was a faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she served in many capacities. One of her greatest joys was being an honorary member of the Guadalupanas. She dearly loved her church family and found joy in serving her parish community.
Adela was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Church Women United.
Adela’s mother passed away when she was only two years old. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is finally rejoicing with her mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnney Cruz Andrada Sr.; her son, Johnney Cruz Andrada Jr.; and her brother, Santiago Juarez.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Christina and Franchesca Andrada; grandsons, Oliver Arreola and his wife, Vanessa, and Matthew Ray Andrada; granddaughter, Keely Garnes; great-grandchildren, Zakariyah, Zamiiren, Zahriyah, Zahkai, and Paiityn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
