Adolfo O'Con Jr.

July 31, 1971 — December 4, 2025

Adolfo O'Con, 54, of Amarillo, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family.

Celebration of Adolfo’s life will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, December 8, 2025 at Trinity Fellowship Student Ministry Center, 5000 Hollywood Rd. The family asks that you wear any shade of blue in honor of Colon Cancer Awareness. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Born on July 31, 1971, Adolfo lived a life defined by service, adventure, and a deep love for his family. His adventurous spirit, generous heart, and sense of humor will be forever cherished by all who knew him.

Adolfo completed a Bachelors of General Studies in 2013 from West Texas A&M University and earned his nursing degree by challenging the Nursing State Board Exam in 2015. He continued his education and earned a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix in July 2020. For more than 25 years, Adolfo served as a healthcare provider working at St. Anthony's Hospital, Northwest Texas Healthcare System, Amarillo Bone and Joint, and High Plains Senior Care, pouring his heart into the medical field and touching countless lives through his compassion and skill. He had a natural gift for teaching, which led to him starting Integrity, CPR and Safety after being diagnosed with colon cancer in August 2020. Adolfo was always eager to guide others-whether mentoring new nurses, helping a friend learn something new, or sharing his wisdom with his children and grandchildren.

Adolfo is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Lydia O'Con, and his three children who were the pride of his life: Sarah Monzon and her husband Carlos, Nicholas O'Con and his wife Vivianna, and Christian O'Con. He was "Pawpaw" to his four grandsons, Aaron, Gabriell, Henry, and Samuel who brought him immeasurable joy. He is also survived by his parents, Adolfo and Eugenia O'Con, and his brother, Steve O'Con, his wife Kerri and his grandmother Geneva Gonzales O'Con.

Adolfo loved music, traveling, spending time outdoors, working on his vehicles, and riding his motorcycle. Whether he was exploring a new place or tinkering in the garage, he embraced every moment with enthusiasm and gratitude. His hands were rarely still, and his heart was always full-especially when surrounded by the people he loved most.

Adolfo's life was a testament to living fully, loving deeply, and leaving every person better than he found them. His memory will continue to inspire all who had the blessing of knowing him.

He married the love of his life, Lydia Flores, in 1999, and together they built a life grounded in love, strength, and faith. They were blessed with their son, Nicholas, and together with daughter Sarah and son Christian, creating a home filled with unity, gratitude, and joy. A devoted believer, he loved God deeply and trusted his life to God's purpose-especially after his diagnosis.

His greatest joy came from being with his children and grandchildren. Whether he was hiking, riding his motorcycle, or off on another adventure, he cherished every moment shared with family. He enjoyed traveling, laughing with friends, or simply spending quiet evenings at home with his wife—his favorite place in the world.

After his cancer diagnosis, he gained a renewed passion for caring for his body, dedicating himself to working out and staying strong. He also loved working on his Ford Bronco, a hobby that gave him focus, comfort, and pride. His faith and strength inspired him to create his blog, Warrior's Journey, where he documented his treatments, educated others about colon cancer, and used his testimony to encourage and inform anyone facing similar battles.

He was a devoted husband, father, brother, son, PawPaw, nurse, educator, mentor, and friend, fulfilling each role with sincerity and purpose. With over 25 years in healthcare, he served with compassion, curiosity, and a constant desire to learn. He especially loved mentoring nurses, sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation of caregivers. His legacy of service, kindness, and perseverance lives on in every life he touched.

May he rest in everlasting peace.

To honor his legacy, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Warriors Journey Foundation, an organization that will carry on his passion for education and reflective of Adolfo's values of strength, service, and compassion.
