Alan Dale Nickles, age 77, of Amarillo, TX, entered his eternal home on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 27, 2025 from 6-7pm at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. A military celebration of life will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Amarillo with Pastor Will Esler officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount Blvd Amarillo, TX.

Alan was born on July 30, 1948 in Gadsden, Alabama to John and Alice Nickles. He spent part of his childhood at Cal Farley’s Boy’s Ranch with his parents where his father, John, was the general manager until 1959. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1966.

Alan enlisted in the Army in 1967 where he served in Vietnam as an E-5 Specialist, Tank Wheel, and Track Mechanic. He served in the First Infantry Division, 8th Battalion, 6th Artillery in Vietnam and Lai Khe. After his time in Lai Khe, he was stationed in Bamberg, Germany.

Alan met the love of his life, Nancy Kardos on a blind date that his best friend Bill Hicks set up for him. They were married on March 16, 1970 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, TX. He and Nancy spent their first year of marriage in Bamberg, Germany while Alan finished out his time in the US Army.

Alan was an avid mechanic who loved cars. His passion was restoring classic cars while balancing his business, Amarillo Lumber Co., with his father and brother. Alan and Nancy spent many years attending classic car shows with Panhandle Rods showing off his many classic rods he restored himself.

For 25 years, Alan also enjoyed volunteering for the Lake Tanglewood Community Fire Department, where he also served as Fire Chief. He enjoyed spending time on the lake fishing with his girls, teaching them to water ski, and spending time with friends and family.

Alan is preceded in death by his parents, numerous aunts, uncles, and his son-in-law, Aaron Snyder.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters Cindy Nickles of Wisconsin, Jaime Bentley (and husband Cory), and Emily Snyder; his four grandchildren, Brandon Bentley (and wife Kynleigh) of Odessa, Brooklyn Amason (and husband Garrett) of Amarillo, Kaden Snyder of Amarillo, and Ella Snyder of Amarillo; his brother, Dave Nickles (and wife Dawn) of Aurora, CO; nieces and nephews Jared Galloway (Pippin) of McKinney, Courtney Moran (Patrick) of Dallas, TX, Abby Salter (Jason) of Amarillo, Hayden Nickles of Aurora CO, Ivy Nickles of Aurora, CO and his new precious Great-Grandson, Hudson Marc Bentley of Odessa.
