Alejandro “Alex” “Hondo” Ramirez

Alejandro “Alex” “Hondo” Ramirez, 74, of Hereford, TX passed away on August 5, 2023.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Monday, August 14, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, TX. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Alex was born on July 13, 1949, in Mertzon, TX, to Martin and Anita Ramirez. After moving to Vega, TX where he attended Vega middle and high school. Halfway through his high school career he enlisted and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He served 3 years in the service where he was rewarded with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Vietnam Service Medal w/3*, Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct medal, Combat Action Ribbon, The Purple Heart Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal. After being honorably discharged from wounds inflicted while in combat. Alex later on attended TSTI where he received his welding certification. He went on to become a Union Pipe Fitters welder where he traveled to various locations within and outside of the United States perfecting his craft. Alex welded for 20+ years; during and after which he spread his knowledge to his siblings the craft of welding. After accomplishing different welding jobs throughout his life, Alex was a free spirit who lived his life like no ordinary person would and that’s the way he liked it.

Not only was Alex a U.S. Marine Vet and a very-experienced welder, but he was also a very giving and a big-hearted person to anyone. Alex would never tell anyone no when it came to help, he would give his shirt if you asked him for it.

He is preceded in death by his son, Rojelio Ramirez; his parents, Martin and Anita Ramirez; his brother, Felix Ramirez; and his two nieces, Nicki Ramirez and Melissa Murray.

Alex is survived by 2 sons, Francisco Ramirez, and Lorenzo Ramirez; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Martin and wife Beth Ramirez of Vega, Yolanda and husband Jessie Tarango of Muleshoe, Belen Ramirez of Big Lake, Ted and wife Sulema Ramirez of Hereford, Julie and husband Dennis Ruiz of Amarillo, and Carlos and wife Delilah Ramirez of Hereford; sister-in-law, Sue Ramirez of Hereford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
