On July 6,2026 we said goodbye to the fierce spirit of Amanda Elizabeth Withrow Fitzgerald. She was a cherished Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister and friend to many, and her presence will be deeply missed. Amanda was born in Hamilton, OH on May 21st, 1984, to Merle and Rosanne Withrow. Amanda was a graduate of Highland Park High School and West Texas A&M University.
Amanda is survived by her husband Danny and children Jack, Ella, and Rufus; her Parents Merle and Rosanne Withrow; her siblings, Brendan Withrow (Tabatha Richardson) and Frances Withrow, and many more cherished family.
She was a pillar for her family to lean on, a source of laughter and comfort, and someone who always knew the right sauce or spice to liven up a snack. She filled their home with music, creativity, honesty, and love. Amanda also knew how to add a little whimsy to life. Whether she was dancing around the house with her kids, getting yet another silly matching tattoo with her sister, driving with the windows down and loud music blasting, or sharing her characteristic smirk before cracking a joke, she knew how to lighten the mood.
Amanda spent a lifetime exuding curiosity and compassion...and telling stories that lasted twice as long as they should have. Some of her favorite childhood memories came from time spent in Ohio at Grandma Dot’s farm, where she rode horses, drove golf carts, and got into general mischief. She loved listening to Grandma Dot play the organ or bells.
Throughout her life, Amanda found connection through a love of animals, music, and art. She expressed that connection by creating prolifically and advocating, unashamedly, for a better world. Whether it was oil painting, charcoal, jewelry, or any other medium she could get her hands on, she never let the unknown stop her from trying something new.
Amanda was a teacher at Palo Duro High School. She was known for supporting her students’ growth in every aspect of their lives and she always fought to improve public education. Her advocacy extended far beyond education. Amanda stood up for anyone she saw being denied the access, dignity, or treatment they deserved. She held a righteous anger toward injustice and carried the weight of it in everything she did.
She knew that real change required voicing opinions that challenged the comfort in the status quo. She did not shy away from telling her truth, authentically and loudly, in a world that did not always want to hear it. She shared her love and knowledge without prejudice, and she made the world a better place.
There are so many words that describe her: powerhouse, artist, mother, advocate, partner, educator, daughter, sister, activist, hooligan, and punk. But ultimately, she was simply and uniquely Amanda.
And she will be greatly missed.
For those of us left behind, honor her by creating something for yourself or someone you love. Speak out against injustice, help others when you see a need and most of all be relentlessly authentic.
If you would like to share photographs or written memories of Amanda, her sister will attempt, with no promises, to compile them. Please email anything you would like to share to amandafitzmemories@gmail.com. Include your name and how you knew Amanda.
Amanda’s Memorial will be held at First Christian Church, 3001 Wolflin Ave, Amarillo Tx 79109 on July 18, 2026 at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
