Barbara Jean Ellis of Argyle, Texas peacefully passed away on February 20, 2026, at 78 years old, after bravely facing dementia and Alzheimer’s for eight years. She was lovingly surrounded by her husband and sons, just as she would have wished.
Memorial service will be at 4:00 PM, Friday, March 13, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Born on July 12, 1947, in El Paso, Texas, Barbara’s life was centered around family. In 1962 she moved to Amarillo with her family during her ninth-grade year of school. After graduating from Tascosa High School, she married David Ellis on September 17, 1965, beginning a partnership filled with love and countless cherished memories. Together, they raised three energetic boys where Barbara dedicated her early years to creating a warm and lively home. The family were active members of the community and First Christian Church before relocating to the DFW Metroplex in 1991.
Barbara had a special gift for turning everyday moments into treasured memories. She stayed involved with her sons’ schoolwork, practices, and games, embracing the challenges and joy of raising athletic boys. Over the years, she formed lifelong friendships, including a beloved bunco group made up of friends she met through work and her sons’ sports activities. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, famous for layered enchiladas and tacos made in quantities only a devoted boy mom could understand. For Barbara, meals were more than just food, they were her way of showing love and bringing everyone together.
After moving to DFW, Barbara dedicated 25 years to North Dallas Pediatrics, where she built meaningful relationships and took pride in serving families in the North Texas community and supporting David in his career goals.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Christopher “Corn” Ellis; her parents, Cecil Edward, and Marjorie Belden Brunk; and her brother, Cecil “Eddie” Brunk.
Barbara leaves behind her devoted husband, David Ellis; her sons Tony Ellis and wife Kimberley, and Brent Ellis and daughter-in-law Kristin; her nephew Chip Brunk and nieces Julie Healy and Lori Christiansen; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren who will carry forward her traditions, recipes, and love.
Her family will always remember her strength, devotion, and the quiet, steady ways she showed up for those she loved.
