Becky DeLeon, 75, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
Celebration of life services will be at 3:00 PM, Friday, July 11, 2025, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Pastor Darrel Bonjour officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Becky was born the oldest daughter of Gerald and Opal Henson on June 20,1950, in Abilene.
At a very young age Becky lost her hearing, but as the oldest child she could be fiercely protective of her younger siblings. She graduated from Monahans High School and went on to attend Sul Ross University in Alpine. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Art. On July 17, 1973, she married her husband Daniel Deleon, and on January 7,1976, they welcomed their first daughter, Micalyin Charaby DeLeon, with their second daughter to follow in May of 1979.
Becky worked as a typesetter, gardening journalist, and cartographer at the Alpine Avalanche until 1988. In December of 1988, Becky decided to further her education, and went on to attend Texas Tech University in Lubbock, from which she graduated with a second bachelor's degree in deaf education, in 1990.
Becky went on to become a deaf education teacher in Amarillo where she worked until her retirement in May of this year. She enjoyed teaching and educating children and loved to teach using a hands-on approach. She has written numerous successful grants, one of which enabled the creation of a science laboratory in her elementary school. She especially loved teaching science.
Becky loved playing with all the children in her family, and enjoyed doing science experiments with them, building campfires and doing arts and crafts. She also enjoyed playing guitar, especially with her bluegrass band, The Texas Travellers. She loved hosting Halloween Hootenanies every October, as Halloween was her favorite holiday.
Becky overcame many obstacles in her life and became a pillar of support, education, and inspiration to many people. She was an amazingly supportive mother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend. She lived her life with kindness, empathy and humbleness.
She is preceded in death by her father, Gerald Henson; her husband, Daniel Deleon; her daughter, Micaylin DeLeon, and her sister-in-Law, Kathy Henson.
