Betty Ann Hopper, 97, of Amarillo, TX died Sunday, December 3, 2023.
Private services were held. Arrangements were by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Betty was born December 5, 1925, in Amarillo, TX to Clarence and Kathleen (Whittington) Long.
Raised in Amarillo Betty graduated from Amarillo High in 1946. She attended and graduated from Colorado College in 1948. Betty married Samuel Edward Hopper in 1948 in Amarillo, Tx. Throughout their married life they raised 3 daughters, farmed and ranched, owned and operated multiple bowling alleys in Colorado and Texas. When they returned to farming and ranching she went to work for the Bailey County ASCS office in Muleshoe, Texas until returning to Amarillo.
She was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, DAR, PEO Chapter CM, Silver Strutters and volunteered many hours for Snack Pak 4 Kids, Wounded Warriors, Veterans, and Cancer Patients, RSVP Services for Senior Citizens, Accent Hospice Care, and the food pantry at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was widely traveled and had an adventurous life. Her greatest joys were the family legacy she leaves to carry on.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sam Hopper; parents C.O. Long and Kathleen Long Hagaman who were pioneers of the Texas Panhandle.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandi and husband Al Lacaze of Keller, Tx; Nancy and husband Carroll Freeman of San Angelo, Tx; Janet and husband Scott Elliott of Amarillo, Tx; 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many wonderful friends to complete a well lived life.
