Betty Higgins, age 96, was born on January 31, 1930, in Wink, Texas, to Clarence and Florene Dixon. Her mother passed away when Betty was just five years old, and she was lovingly raised by her aunt, Bertha Railsback, who cared for her as her own daughter.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.W. Higgins; her parents; her aunt, Bertha Railsback; and her three brothers, Charles Dixon, Eugene Dixon, and James Dixon.
She leaves behind a legacy spanning five generations. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Harrison and husband Troy Harrison; her son, Gary Patrick Higgins and wife Schamane Higgins; her grandchildren, Danielle Higgins, Lisa Solomon, and Jennifer Boyer; her great-grandchildren, Landon Warren, Hannah Solomon, Meghann Hord, and Audra Ramirez; and her great-great-grandchildren, Emmalynn Hord, Rowan Hord, Braylen Cates, Remington Ramirez, and Emerson Warren. Betty treasured her family above all else, and nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with those she loved.
Betty dedicated 35 years of her career to T.G. & Y. She began as a District Secretary and was later promoted to store manager in Amarillo. Following her retirement from T.G. & Y., she wasn’t ready to slow down. She went on to work for Bill Day Flowerland for another ten years before retiring for a second time.
Retirement opened the door to new adventures. At her daughter’s encouragement, Betty learned to play bridge, beginning a lifelong love of the game and creating countless cherished hours spent with her daughter and friends. She also loved to travel, and every summer included a planned trip that she looked forward to with excitement.
Betty will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her love of family, her adventurous spirit, and the kindness she shared with everyone who knew her.
