Betty Loomis

Betty Loomis, 99, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on July 24, 2023.

Private family services will be held.

Betty was born on February 18, 1924, in Choteau, Montana to James and Elizabeth Thorn, who were pioneers of that area. She was the only one of her siblings born in a hospital. Her brothers and sisters all were born on the homestead. Betty was raised in Fairfield, Montana. Betty married George Looms, and they moved from Fairfield to the big city of Great Falls where they had 3 children, Guy, Ted, and Sally. Their family then moved to Amarillo, Texas, following George’s work with the Bureau of Reclamation.  Betty was a homemaker for most of her life and served as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter Sally’s troop. She also worked as a teacher’s aide in Amarillo. Betty was an involved member of St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church in Amarillo.

Betty and George first retired to Austin, Texas, and then Lago Vista, Texas, following her grandkids. Together, they loved to dance and took up line dancing in their retirement. Throughout her life she was an avid bridge player, both social and duplicate. Following retirement Betty became an avid golfer and enjoyed that for many years. She loved cooking and many people requested her recipes. Betty was of strong woman and always had a smile for everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; son, Ted; two granddaughters, Katie Parge and Sarah Parge; and all of her siblings.

She is survived by her son, Guy (Janet); daughter, Sally (Phil Parge); granddaughter, Carrie (Steve Singleton); great-grandson, Jace Singleton; and great-granddaughter, Sarah Kate Singleton.
