Bill Layman was born April 30, 1962 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Harold and Geneva Layman. He lived on the family farm in Rockwell City, Iowa until 1974 when they moved to Dalhart, TX. He grew up working with his dad and for other farmers. He graduated from Dalhart High School in 1980 and attended Clarendon College where he earned his Ranch and Feedlot Operations certification and his Associates Degree. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Education at Texas Tech. He worked on a ranch near Texline for a short time before he started his 23-year Agriculture Education career in McLean, Texas. McLean became his home, he made many friends, purchased some land and raised cattle there until his death. Many former students remember him fondly.
Bill was active in a number of ventures, probably one of his favorites was being in partnership on some racehorses. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the group and loved attending the races. He was a realtor for several years after his retirement from teaching. In college at Clarendon, he spent many hours in the roping arena with friends. Brent remembers many friends affectionately calling him Brother Bill. Many former students remember him fondly.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, and his best friend, Mark Tate.
Survivors include Lucas and Kelsey Seymour, who he considered his family. Their children Swayze and Shae were the light of his life. Siblings were his twin brother, Brent Layman and his sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Tom Novak. Nieces and nephews were Crystal Troster (Justin, Carson, Cason), Jay Novak (Jamey, Jace, Jameson, Jarrett) and Bradly Layman (Zoe, Avery). He was an honorary member of the Eck family as well.
Thank you to the incredible team at BSA CCU who cared for Bill, and us, so well.
