Brenda was born to Lofton Barnell Washington and Gloria Maydene Cagle Washington on May 28, 1959, in Amarillo, TX. She was a graduate in the 1978 Class at Palo Duro High School.
Brenda married Stephen Ray Williamson on March 20, 1982. Brenda and Steve made their home in Amarillo, TX.
Brenda worked at Amarillo National Bank while earning her nursing degree. She graduated from Amarillo College in 1984 with her nursing degree and immediately began her 35-year career at BSA. She started in Medical ICU and was in that department for 15 years and spent the remaining time in Conscious Sedation. Brenda loved her medical community of colleagues with so many becoming dear friends. Her love of nursing was shown by her skill, compassion and the hope and courage she gave her patients. She received many verbal and written thank you notes, throughout her career, expressing patients and their families appreciation for having Brenda as their nurse. One of the highlights of Brenda’s nursing career was her two trips to Honduras to work with Doctors Without Borders.
Brenda’s church family was so very important to her, and she loved them dearly. She loved singing in the choir and sharing food with that community whenever the need arose.
Brenda’s love of cooking was a benefit to many who knew her. She was always trying new recipes and grew herbs and sometimes vegetables to use in her delicious meals. Her collection of aprons was another added bit of fun as she cooked. Her gardens and containers were always fun to see and enjoy with her.
Her creativity spilled over into the beautiful cross-stitching she completed on linen fabric. Many in her family received these love-laden works of art from her. She got so much joy in stitching for her family. Brenda received a number of ribbons whenever she entered one of her creations in the Tri-State Fair.
Along with her stitching and gardening, her love of color spilled over onto the many paintings she created from the travels she and Steve were able to take over the years, as well as the portraits of some of her beloved pets. She loved cats and always had at least one with her throughout her life.
Her love of color was not only evident in her paintings, it was in her wardrobe, her garden, and the way she viewed life. Brenda loved life and bringing people to laughter with her sense of humor and animation.
Her love of adventures took her and Steve to the Caribbean many times but the trip they took to Africa was a highlight for Brenda. They were able to capture, in photo, the Big 5 and, that thrilled her. Her photos of their trips became a source for many of her paintings.
Brenda loved the beauty and magic of nature where she stayed in awe of so much, the flowers, the critters, and the wonder of it all. She and her sister, Linda, enjoyed many learning experiences together as they were so much more than sisters, they were the best of friends and shared lives many ups and downs together.
Brenda and Steve had no children of their own but sponsored Josephine, Daniel, William, and Neema for many years through the Christian Relief Fund through their church home, Washington Avenue Christian Church. The many thank you cards she and Steve received from acquaintances they knew needed a helping hand, sometimes anonymously, also knew her generosity.
Preceding her in death were her parents and grandparents.
Those left to cherish her memories include her loving husband of 42 years, Steve; sister Linda Washington; brother-in-law Jack Williamson II and his wife Kathy; nephew Kree Kelley and wife Tanya, their children McKynna and Slade; niece Kelli Martin and husband Kevin and son Kolby; nephew Jack Williamson III (Jay) and wife Erin, their children Kinley and Cale; honorary nephews Colby and Conner Croslin; as well as many, many cherished cousins.
A special thank you to her Texas Oncology team for their compassion and care as well as her Gentiva Hospice nurses, Becki and Ken.
