Brenton Lance Mitchell

January 11, 2004 — October 30, 2025

Brenton Lance Mitchell, 21, of Amarillo, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on October 30, 2025.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with arrangements by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Brenton was born on January 11, 2004, in Dalhart, Texas, to Jason Taylor and Kelli Mitchell. From the moment he arrived, his family knew he was someone truly special. Brenton’s life was filled with curiosity, joy, and a generous heart. He shared a love of race cars with his father and spent countless hours learning the mechanics of vehicles and airplanes alongside his beloved Pop. His many talents included playing video games, gardening, and music—he was skilled on the trumpet, viola, and violin, among others. His quick wit, bright smile, and infectious laughter left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Brenton attended Tascosa High School from 2018 to 2021 before graduating from Amarillo Collegiate Academy in May 2022. He worked at Texas Turbo Electric for several years before bravely facing a diagnosis of DSCRT, a rare form of cancer. Despite his illness, Brenton remained steadfast in his faith and passion for life. He dreamed of becoming an airplane mechanic and continued to spend time working on vehicles, proudly becoming a recent owner of a 1986 Corvette and a Ford Mustang. He loved animals of all kinds—hedgehogs, ferrets, rats, and more. Brenton married Alexis Thomas on September 23, 2025.

Brenton was preceded in death by his father, Jason Dewayne Taylor; grandparents George Brent “Pop” Smith and Lisa Marie “Nana” Smith; and great-grandmother Mary Lee Hall, all formerly of Dalhart, Texas.

He is survived by his mother, Kelli Rae Mitchell; siblings Morgan, Khloe, Braedyn, and Khalisa; uncles Jeremy Hall and wife Denise with children Jacob and Kailee Hall; Jason and Rochelle Smith; Danny Hall and wife Tami; and Charlie Hall and wife Angel. He is also survived by aunts - Sherri Trawick and husband James of South Texas; Wendy Mitchell and children Chaleighia Pedraza and Adrian Ramos; and cousins McKenzie Powers, Madison Sanchez and husband Alex with their son Nico.

Brenton will also be deeply missed by his closest friend and cousin, Jacob Hall; his lifelong friend, Josiah Webber; and a large extended family who loved him deeply.

Brenton will be remembered for his boundless kindness, infectious spirit, and the love he freely offered to everyone around him. His light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him.
