Cal was born June 12, 1939 in Alanreed, TX to George Perry Hunt and Florence (Preston) Hunt Barbour. He graduated from Palo Duro High School (1959) then enlisted in the United States Navy. After returning, he went to work for Bell Helicopter. Cal and Shirley married on December 8, 1969 in Amarillo, TX. In 1973 Cal transferred to Bell Helicopter International and took his wife and two young daughters to Tehran, Iran. The family were there until there was a revolution in the country and Cami and Christi were sent home. Cal and Shirley stayed until they had to be evacuated out of Iran in 1979. Upon returning to Amarillo, Cal worked for a telephone and electronics business and joined the Worldwide Church of God. Cal worked with the sound system and he and Shirley worked with the church youth groups and taught Sabbath classes. Cal was a member of the Church of God for 46 years. He currently attends with the Church of the Great God congregation with headquarters in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Cal started his own business, ALLTech Electric Company. When his business declined during the recession, Cal enrolled in Amarillo College and received his electronics degree.

He loved taking hiking trips in the Colorado mountains and prospecting for gold. His favorite memories included attending the Feast of Tabernacles every year where he would take care of the church widows then sit up at night drinking beer and discussing religion with all his buddies. He felt he had to tell everyone he met about the benefits of pure elderberry juice. With the hundreds of people he told he may well have been a part of its popularity today. Cal was very patriotic and was proud of serving on the Board of Directors for the Texas Panhandle War Memorial during its inception. He was also a member of the VFW 430 and a volunteer at the VA Hospital. He was also proud to have been a delegate to Tuxtla, Chiapas Mexico in 2001 with the Sister Cities Organization.

During his last days in the Veterans Hospital his favorite word became “WOW.” He was so appreciative of the care he was receiving, even the food, and his loved ones near. He even said he thought everything was “just perfect.”

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Camala Cary, and siblings, Eddie Hunt, and Reta Gumper.

Cal is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Amarillo, TX; daughter, Christi, of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Nicolas Martinez, T.J. Hunt, Justin Johnson (Lesa), Raven Hunt (Deon), Jeremiah Johnson (Sarah), and Christopher Barrett II (Candice); and great-granddaughters, Shaylynn, Mezmyriah, and Ayana. His adopted grandchildren include Deon’s daughters, Keyonna, Chenea, Chelayziah, the Wilhelm families of Denver CO and Zach family of Harrisburg PA.

The family will receive friends from 3 – 5 pm on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage.
