Carl Herbert Bittner, 92, of Dumas, died on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The family will receive friends at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Monday, October 27, 2025. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Memorial Chapel, with Darrell Wait officiating. Military Rites will be by American Legion Post #224. Private burial will be at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Carl was born on January 6, 1933 in Canon City, Colorado to Lester and Della Bittner. He graduated from Canon High School where he excelled in football. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Buck during the Korean War. He married Patricia Maxine Garrett on January 31, 1953 and they moved to Dumas in 1955. He began working for the Zinc plant in 1956, later a service station, for the packing plant, and retired from the State of Texas after 17 years in 1997. He enjoyed wood working, reading, and fishing. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Dumas.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Maxine Bittner of Dumas; a son, Richard Allen Bittner and wife Ee-Oon of Cypress; two daughters, Lorraine Kay Tomblin of Carlsbad, NM. and Arlene Fay Maxwell and husband Brett of Frisco; a brother, Paul Bittner of NM.; six grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Jessica, Jake, Lyndsay, and Jerrod; and four great grandchildren.
