Amarillo

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carlton (Carl) Wayne Werschky, age 75, on May 9, 2025. Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Carlton lived much of his life in Amarillo, Texas, where he was beloved by family and friends alike.

Carlton was a graduate of Alamo High School and served his country honorably as a Vietnam Veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service and retired from Asarco in 2012. Although he endured many years of chronic illnesses, he stayed positive and steadfast the entire journey. He is the bravest man any of us will ever know. He will be remembered not only for his service but also for his unwavering kindness and generosity. Carlton had a unique ability of making you feel like you belonged the moment you walked into the room. He loved deeply—people, dogs, and most of all, he loved Jesus. He was fully present wherever he was.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Diane Werschky, and their children: Sam (Anne) Werschky of Fort Worth, Lisa Werschky of Redondo Beach, Amanda (Jason) Johnson of Amarillo, Kendra (Blue) Baggett of Amarillo, Dustin (Tracie) Howell of Bushland, and Josh (Christy) Howell of Amarillo. Carlton was a devoted PaPa to his grandchildren and great grandchild: Sam Werschky Jr, Dalton Werschky, Blaine Werschky, Blake Perdue, Kensley Perdue, Jackson Baggett, Tyler French, Gavin Bell, Bryxxton Ramirez, Kaylee Lively, Marcus Lively, Makayla Howell, Jake Howell, Braden Howell, and Brylee Howell and one great granddaughter Rosy Werschky. Additionally, Carlton is survived by his stepmother Sue Werschky, and siblings Twalla Werschky Castilow, Carlton Werschky, and Randy Werschky.

Carlton touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and laughter. He loved big and loved like Jesus. He never spoke poorly of anyone. Around him, there was laughter, joy, and this unmistakable feeling that you mattered. He took the time to truly see people, to listen, to laugh, and to bring light. In times like these, it’s only human to ask God “why?” and while we may not understand on this side of Heaven, we believe that PaPa knows fully now. We believe he’s leaning over the rails of Heaven, cheering us on with that same big love. His family will cherish the countless memories they created together, and he will be greatly missed.
