Cathy Sue Varner Bell

Aug 3, 1953 — Aug 9, 2026

Cathy Sue Varner Bell, 73, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on August 9, 2026.

Cathy lived in Quanah until 1965 when her mother Pauline and father Carl Varner along with her sister Dorothy Varner moved to Childress Tx, where her parents bought a truckstop restaurant just south of town. Very iconic it had a huge oil derrick on top of it you could see for miles. Cathy went to school in Childress from 1965 thru 1968. In Childress Cathy made lifelong friends some of whom she was still in contact with. The family sold the restaurant and moved to Buena Vista Colorado close to family and new opportunities. They then moved to Amarillo Tx where Cathy attended and graduated from Palo Duro High school.

Shortly after graduation Cathy met Jack Bell. They married on March 3 1973. They shortly became parents to twin boys on July 1. They were 2 1/2 months premature so babies were in hospital for many weeks and so tiny. They quickly became Cathy’s pride and joy. She started working in banking at Amarillo National Bank when her twins were 18 months old and she loved it. She worked here til Chad and Brad were 8 years old and the family moved for a job opportunity to Brighton Colorado. Cathy again went into banking and worked in Broomfield Colorado. She worked there till Chad and Brad graduated and the family moved back to Texas. Cathy again went right back to Amarillo National Bank and remained until their first grandbaby was born in 2009. Cathy retired for a while and was in love with being a Nana as was Jack or PopPop as they were lovingly called. They again came back to Amarillo when Jack's mother became quite ill. Jack retired and Cathy went back into banking this time for Herring Bank. Cathy loved banking and did that most of her adult life. There wasn’t much she didn’t know or people or customers that she had. She always knew them on a warm basis. She was awarded customer service awards many, many times. She remained at Herrington main bank until she retired when she was 67.

Cathy and Jack loved visiting their family in Windsor Co. and did that a lot after their grandchildren were born. Cathy lost Jack, the love of her life 13 years ago. They were married for 40 years. She never got over being without Jack but she made the best of it. Cathy, Dorothy and Jesse loved going to all the different casinos. Cathy’s favorite of course was in Las Vegas. She enjoyed watching her Grandson Austyn playing golf basketball whichever season it was. Then her granddaughters Braelynn and Addie doing Cheer , Gymnastics and Volleyball. Watching Dorothy and Jesse’s grands Liberti Fast pitch softball, Jessen baseball, and football and Beckett playing hockey football and baseball. Cathy and Dorothy were inseparable. Their children Chale, Chad, Brad, and Luci were raised as brothers and sisters. If you saw one you saw the other. Jesse tried to take care of both of them which was a handful.

Cathy is preceded in death by her Father in 1976 and Mother in 1980. And her beloved Jack in 2013.

Cathy is survived by her twin sons Chad Bell (wife Nicole). Brad Bell. Her grandson Austyn age 17, granddaughter Braelynn age 13 and granddaughter Addie age 11. Her sister Dorothy and (husband Jesse) Niece/bonus daughterChale Dawson(Jason husband) and niece/bonus daughter Luci Conner (Shane husband) Grand niece Liberti Dawson grand nephews Jessen Dawson and Beckett Conner. Countless family members sister-in-law’s brother-in-law’s nieces nephews cousins.

Cathy had a full life in her short 73 years but she will be missed greatly by so many.
