Amarillo

Cecil Leon Gray, 87, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on March 25, 2026.

He was born on December 24, 1939, in Rural, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, to Thomas Lorenzy “Tom” Gray and Eula Florence Smith Gray.

Cecil served in the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1965 before answering a lifelong call to ministry. He became an ordained Nazarene pastor and faithfully served churches from 1965 to 2003. For nearly four decades, he dedicated his life to preaching, guiding others in faith, and caring for the people entrusted to him.

Cecil was renowned for his prayers and the miracles that happened within his ministry.

He attended Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University) to prepare for a life of service, leadership, and ministry. Cecil was ordained by the Nazarene Church.

Cecil shared a devoted life with his wife, Wanda Sharron Boyce Gray. Together, they built a family centered on faith, love, and commitment.

His children survive him: Patricia (Patty) Nitsche, Davonne Davis, Michael Gray, Tammy Robinson, and Ryan Schweizer; his grandchildren: Nicole, Rachel, Amanda, Jessica, Jacob, Matthew, Danielle, Kacey, and Weston; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Thomas Gray, Homer Paul Gray, and Maurice Gray.

Outside of ministry, Cecil found joy in woodworking, fishing, and hunting. He was most proud of his faith and his family, and he loved and cared for thousands of people throughout his lifetime.

Cecil was passionate and generous in love. His character and kindness were magnetic, and his steady faith left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Chris Hightower family and Ruth Webster for their extra special love, care, and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, at First Nazarene Church, 5201 S Soncy Rd., Amarillo, Texas.

Whether in the pulpit or by the water, Cecil lived with joy, purpose, and gratitude. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and a life fully lived.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
