Charles "Chip" H. Parsley Jr.

Charles “Chip” Parsley, 70, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on August 19, 2025.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 25, 2025, at Hillside Christian Church in the Chapel, 6100 S. Soncy. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Chip was born in Hastings, NE, on April 16, 1955, to Edith (Udell) and Charles “Charlie” Henry Parsley Sr.

Chip’s childhood years were spent in Missouri and Wisconsin, where he served as his dad’s “assistant coach” at Southeast Missouri State University and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He graduated from Shorewood High School in Shorewood, Wisconsin in 1973.

A natural-born competitor, Chip's love for sports started early, earning a basketball scholarship to Western Kentucky University. He played the game with fierce determination and was known to shoot hoops with the same intensity he later brought to family board games. Chip graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Concordia College and furthered his education by earning a Master’s of Science in Education from Sul Ross State University. He dedicated his life to teaching and coaching, beginning as Men’s Basketball Coach at St. Paul’s Junior College and Tarkio College before making his mark as a high school principal and tennis coach in Vega, TX. He later coached tennis in Flour Bluff, TX, and took on his newest passion—pickleball—where he was known to dominate the courts.

He was never one to shy away from a challenge. If it was a game, he was in it to win it—whether it was basketball, tennis, or a backyard game of cornhole. Chip was also famous for his trash talk, which he delivered with the precision of a seasoned comedian, always throwing in a one-liner or playful insult just as he finished you off in a game of HORSE. His fun sense of humor will forever echo in the memories of anyone who crossed his path.

Chip’s love of sports and education was only surpassed by his deep love for his family. He cherished every moment with his wife, Linda, his children Dr. C.J. Parsley and his wife Dr. Megan Parsley, and Dr. Courtney Carthel and her husband Dr. Kade Carthel. He was especially proud of his grandchildren—Charlie, James, Capp, and Collyns—who he doted on and made laugh at every opportunity.

Chip was also a member of Community Bible Church in San Antonio, where his faith shone brightly. He will be remembered not only as a coach and educator but as someone who always brought energy, enthusiasm, competitiveness, and a dose of humor to everything he did.

Chip was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edith and Charlie Parsley. He is survived by his wife, Linda and her sons, Bryan and Anthony Padovano; his children and their spouses; his grandchildren; his sister, Debbie McEvoy, and her husband Pete; and their children, Connor and Sean.
