Charles Butler Hedrick

Charles B. Hedrick, 92, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 10, 2026, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Charles was born March 19, 1934, in Turkey, Texas, to Gordon and Marian Hedrick. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, including service in Germany, before receiving an honorable discharge.

Charles later dedicated 20 years of service to the Potter County Sheriff’s Department before retiring. Retirement, however, did not mean slowing down. Charles and his wife, Louise, volunteered for two years at Glorieta Christian Camp near Santa Fe, New Mexico. They also spent eight summers as campground hosts at RV parks in Red River, New Mexico, working for Harold and Angela Young.

Charles enjoyed spending time in his shop, where he used his hands and creativity to build wooden gifts for family and friends. He especially enjoyed making walking sticks for people, each one a reflection of his generosity and desire to do something special for others.

Charles met Louise through mutual friends, and six months later they were married. Their marriage became a remarkable 67-year journey together, filled with family, friendship, service, travel, and countless memories.

Charles was preceded in death by his firstborn son, Brent Hedrick; his parents, Gordon and Marian Hedrick; his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Mozelle Hedrick; and his brother-in-law, Everett Kelley.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Louise Hedrick; his son, Bryan Hedrick and wife Jana; his grandson, Max Hedrick; his sister, Sue Kelley; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.

Charles loved his family and friends deeply and genuinely enjoyed the people God placed throughout his life. He will be remembered for his service to his God, country and community, his willingness to help others, the things he created with his own hands, and most of all, the love he had for his family.
