Charlissa “Charli” Turner Stokes, 71, of Amarillo, TX passed away September 2, 2025.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Cornerstone Church, 505 S. Tennessee. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Charli was born September 26, 1953 in Amarillo, TX. She attended Tascosa High School and was in the class of 1972. She attended Amarillo College and received an associate’s degree, where she was named outstanding business school student for being at the top of her class.
Charli married the love of her life, Burnie Stokes, on May 24, 1980. They enjoyed 45 years of love and friendship.
Charli was a smart businesswoman. She worked for Ryder truck rental as a manager for 19 years. She spent several years on the YMCA Baseball Board of Directors. She and Burnie opened Panhandle Gunslingers in 1997 and owned it until their retirement in 2019. Charli ended her career by working at Rolling Hills Elementary for 2 years as a Special Education Paraprofessional. There she found a special family of coworkers and students.
Charli had a passion for breeding and showing dogs. She was President and Show Chair for the Panhandle Kennel Club for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents Isaac Ferd Turner and Charlesteen Carmack Turner, her aunt Billie Sessions, and aunt, Sue Brittain.
Charli is survived by her husband, Burnie, her daughter, Wendy and husband Steve of Littleton, CO, her son, Rodney and his wife Dana of Amarillo, TX, grandson, Daxton of Indianapolis, IN, grandson, Quinton of Amarillo, TX, granddaughter, Hannah of Litchfield Park, AZ, granddaughter, Caitlyn of Lubbock, TX, granddaughter, Channing of Houston, TX, and 3 great-grandchildren, Lainey, Drew, and Penelope.
