Clois Newel Burgess, 71, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on June 28, 2025 surrounded by family and friends.
Visitation will be from 6-7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at San Jacinto Assembly of God, 400 N. Georgia St. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery East. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Clois was born December 20, 1953 to Carol and Florence Burgess in Elk City, Oklahoma. He attended West Texas State University on a Football scholarship graduating in 1976. Clois taught High School Industrial Arts and Career and Technology for forty years. Clois married his high school sweetheart and was married to Lavanda for 52 years. They were blessed with three beautiful children; Stacy Kirton and her husband Wesley of Canyon, Stephanie Burgess of Chandler Arizona and Kyle Burgess of Amarillo. His greatest joy was his grandson Jamison Kirton.
Clois loved the Lord and spent many years mentoring countless boys as a Royal Ranger leader.
He was always reaching out to others to help with whatever they needed. He enjoyed working with wood, tending his yard growing beautiful flowers, traveling the United States and golfing with his special golfing buddies.
