Craig was born February 24, 1960, to Garland and Patricia (Witt) Long, in Boulder, CO. In 1978, he graduated from Caprock High School where he excelled in tennis and found his love for architecture. He went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University.
He married Tammy Long on June 1, 2004. However, that was not the beginning of their story. They met because Tammy was long-term friends with his sister, Dianna. They worked together for many years before Tammy ever met Craig. When they met in his mother’s kitchen she was hooked. It took him a little while longer but eventually the sparks flew. They became each other’s soulmate. From then on, they had a devoted and plentiful life together.
Early on Craig realized he had a passion for precision. This passion blossomed into a lifelong career in architecture, where his meticulous eye, thoughtful designs, and impeccable handwriting became trademarks of his work. Every line he drew carried purpose, and every project reflected his belief that well-designed spaces could uplift people. He took part in a multitude of outstanding buildings all around Amarillo including Texas Dodge, Christian Science Center, Furrs Grocery Stores, and Hodge Town Stadium. His career spanned many years with the last 14 at the City of Amarillo.
Craig was an avid gardener, enjoyed sports, and had a very competitive spirit. He loved the Lord and was a very honest and compassionate man who loved his family deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Long; sisters, Dianna Errington and Teresa Huguley, husband Glenn Huguley; brother, Kim Long; sons, Brandon Presley, wife Amy Presley and Joshua Presley; nieces, Mersaideez McClain, Maddyson McClain, and Bella Wright; granddaughters, Brooks Presley and Alana-Bell Presley; and many more of Amarillo, TX.
Craig was in treatment for cancer and battled it with strength, courage, and dignity.
He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Until we meet again!
