Danny Earl Black

Danny Earl Black, 82, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on September 3, 2026.

Memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Burial was private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

He was born February 27, 1944, to Earnest and Deverle Black, while his father was serving in the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II.

Danny began his education at Amarillo College and West Texas State University before earning his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Class of 1970. He returned home to Amarillo and spent more than thirty years caring for veterans at the Veterans Affairs hospital. He continued in private practice in Amarillo until his retirement, never leaving the city he called home.

On July 29, 1966, he married Cynthia (Cindy) Black. They shared 54 years of happy marriage before her passing.

Danny is survived by his three children: his daughter Michelle Black Ruiz and her husband Jose Ruiz; his son Todd Black and his wife Melissa Black; and his son Braden Black Sr. and his wife Kristi Black. He is also survived by his brothers Kim Black and his wife Debbie, and Rolly Black, and by his sister Becky Black.

He is survived by his grandchildren Zachary Ruiz; Victoria Ruiz Scobee and her husband Rodney; Nicholas Ruiz; Megan Bryant and her husband Sam Bryant; Melanie Thorpe and her husband Dylan Thorpe; Braden Black Jr.; Jake Black and his wife Ryann Black; Kaitlyn Black; and Lyla Black. He leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Krixus Ruiz, Mavis Ruiz, Ellison Scobee, and Quinn Scobee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy, and by his parents, Earnest and Deverle Black.
