Darrel Alan Sprang

Darrel Alan Sprang, 82, of Amarillo, Texas passed peacefully on August 31, 2023.

He was a loving husband, father, sibling, and friend to many. Born July 2, 1941, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Peggy who resides in Amarillo, four sons and their wives, Will and Sandee from Columbia, SC, Walter and Connie from San Antonio, TX, James and Lanae from Fort Worth, TX, and Doug and Shannon Puckett of Tulsa, OK, one daughter and her husband, Toni and Tommy McSpedden of Kemp, Texas, his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Roseanne Sprang of Madison, WI, and his sister Dorothy Freeman, of Lancaster, PA. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren, Alan, Tyler, Alex, Isaac, Erin, Adam, Madalyn, Lucas, Caleb, Corey, Kodie, Kayla, Kaden, and Taylor.

Raised on a farm in the De Smet, South Dakota area, Darrel spent his childhood years helping his family run the farm. After serving in the National Guard, he later married and moved to Luverne, Minnesota, eventually working for Iowa Beef Processors. In 1975, Darrel moved his young family to Amarillo, Texas when he was transferred with his work. He spent the rest of his life in Amarillo and spent his time raising and supporting his family, serving his community, and making countless friends. For those that knew him best, Darrel was described as a hardworking and loving man, with kindness for all he encountered. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, clay shooting, drinking beer, watching football, attending baseball games, and hearing a great joke. He will forever be remembered for his enduring laughter and ability to make others feel loved and valued. He attended First Christian Church with his church family.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Friday, September 1, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Darrel’s family asks your attendance to celebrate his life at First Christian Church on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
