David Leslie Hinds, 76, of Amarillo, TX passed away November 2, 2025.
Visitation will be from 6:00-7:30 PM, Friday, November 7, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Comanche Trail Church of Christ, 2700 E. 34th Ave. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery East. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
David was born March 28, 1949 in Friona, TX to Leslie R and Hilda Goodnight Hinds. David grew up in Midland ,TX and graduated from Lee High School. He received his Bachelor’s in Music Education from West Texas State University and a Masters in Trumpet Performance from North Texas State University. David’s career in music education spanned 40 years in public school for Amarillo ISD and many years directing the Chamber Orchestra and Suzuki Orchestra at Amarillo College. He served on the board for the Greater Southwest Music Festival and continued to be a committee member when the Festival was taken over by the Amarillo Symphony. David was active as a clinician and adjudicator for UIL competitions and festivals around the state. Post retirement he has been a successful composer of orchestral music, specializing in music for younger groups.
David was an effective elder at Golden Plains Church of Christ where he also served as the worship leader, taught Bible classes, and helped where ever he was needed. His optimistic attitude supported his forward thinking leadership during his time as an elder. He was loved and respected by all in his congregation.
David enjoyed the loving support of Jan, his wife of 42 years during his teaching career and ministry. He loved his family and attended countless concerts, art shows, athletic contests and important milestone events.
He enjoyed golfing with family and friends, loved fantasy football, and was always up for coffee and a donut with any of his friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Hilda Hinds of Midland, TX, his daughter, Kezia Kennedy of Amarillo, TX, and his brother-in-law, David Cargill of Amarillo.
David is survived by His wife Jan Hinds of the home, his children Robert Hinds and his wife Diane of Amarillo, Ann Hinds of Hurst, TX, Shawn Kennedy and his wife Stephanie of Amarillo, and two brothers, Ron Hinds of Coppell and Kevin Hinds of Richardson. David is also survived by 10 loving grandchildren. Emily Hinds-Ward, Jayci Trice, Brooklyn Kennedy, Barrett Johnson, Iana Hinds, Erin Hinds, Ryan Hinds, Kennedy Johnson, Madeline Kennedy, and Brooks Johnson. Other relatives and many friends.
