Donald Frank Schofield “Don”

Donald Frank Schofield “Don”, 79, of Amarillo, TX passed away on December 2, 2023.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 8, 2023, at Saint Stephen Church with Travis Bennett and Perry Hunsaker officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Don was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on September 24, 1944, to Lois and Delbert Schofield. He would often talk about growing up in the Northeast, and the winters, the cold, cold, cold winters, and how much he loved living in Texas!

After graduating from Ripon College in Wisconsin, Don went on to receive his law degree from The University of Texas (Austin campus), then a Masters of Arts in History from West Texas State University. He served in the U. S. Army (JAG), with a tour in Vietnam.  He served as a City Judge for Amarillo, and practiced law in the Panhandle of Texas until retirement.

Don met the love of his life, Connie, when he was in his forties and went from being a life-long bachelor to having a family with two adult children. Before long, he was a grandfather, and even got to be a great-grandfather. Don loved making his grandkids laugh. They would always ask about his childhood, so he wrote an autobiography for them.  Don loved his family, and his family loved him.

Being from the Northeast, Don was a no-nonsense judge and attorney, whose demeanor might often be considered brusque in the courtroom, but his adult grandkids would laugh and say, “Grandpa was a softy who loved to laugh, play and tell silly stories about cheese trees and nose mittens.” Don was a sweet husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Even to the very end he was making sure Connie would be taken care of. Don thought of others first.  His favorite time of year was Christmas, and as his family, we hope you will celebrate the season just as Don did, cherishing the meaning of the season and time with family.

Don was a Christian man who loved to write about his faith. He had several Christian novels published, and one about to be published before he went home to be with the Lord.

Don and Connie attended and were active members of Saint Stephen Church.

Survivors include; his wife, Connie, stepson, Terry Pedigo and wife Suzanne Pedigo, of Amarillo, step daughter Becky Pedigo, of Torrance, California, two grandchildren, Taylor Brewster and husband, Blayne, grandson, Hayden Pedigo and wife, L’Hannah, and two great-grandchildren, Jackson Brewster, and Sophia Brewster, all of Amarillo. Two sisters, Janet Illeg of Eliot, Maine and Betty Blodgett of Springfield, Massachusetts.
