Donna Mae (Larsen) Wells

June 21, 1938 — March 25, 2024

Donna Mae (Larsen) Wells, 85, of Dalhart, TX passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024.

A memorial service will be held at Central  Methodist Church of Dalhart on April 27, 2024 at 2pm. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors at Dumas, 500 N. Maddox.

Donna was born in Hancock, IA on June 21, 1938, to Viola and Nels Larsen and grew up on the farm with her older sister, Elvilda (Sis) and her younger brother James (Jim). It’s not thought that Donna was much of a farm girl as she always expressed very clear disdain for mice, spiders and snakes. These fears would elicit many shrieks later on in her life. Donna enjoyed her school years especially music and the social scene. It was nearing the end of her high school years when she met a young railroader from Arkansas, George Wells, who would prove to be the love of her life. They would marry in 1955 and soon move to Burlington, CO. From this union three children, Danny, Dennis and Diane, were raised in Burlington. The church, scouting, sports, pets and music were important to the family. Of course, from time to time an unfriendly mouse, snake or spider would seem to make its way onto an empty car seat or other appropriate setting which would encourage a scream from Donna and several snickers from George and the kids. Donna was a devoted housewife and dedicated mother who started her own home daycare business. Over the course of several decades she served as a bit of a surrogate parent to dozens and dozens of children for whom she cared.

In the mid 1980’s George’s work took the couple to Dalhart, TX. Donna met many people and formed many friendships through her work in the fabric section at Alco. Through work and their involvement in the church Dalhart quickly became home and once there, they never moved again. Following her work at Alco, Donna worked at the prison but when retirement came it gave the couple a chance to travel, spend time with and support grandchildren and their activities and make new friends. In her final months Donna was dealt many physical challenges but was pleased to be able to spend her final months in Dalhart. Her family is forever indebted to those who cared for her in these difficult days.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister, and her husband of 61 years, George. She is survived by her children and their spouses, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many other extended family members and friends who made her life so enjoyable. She has gone to be with her Lord and Savior and we are certain that Heaven rejoices.
