Doris was born on September 15, 1935 in Borger, TX to Robert Allen Bailey and Gladys Gallemore Bailey. She attended schools in Borger and Amarillo, TX. Doris married William Floyd Rutter Jr. on December 31, 1952, and they shared 49 years together until Bill’s death in 2001.
Doris lived in Amarillo, TX for over 75 years and raised two wonderful daughters, Carrie Ellis and Leslie Goodrum whom she loved dearly.
Doris was raised in the Baptist Church, a faith which she held close to her heart; however, as an adult, she raised her own family at St. Stephen Methodist Church. She was a member of the Heritage and Covenant Sunday School classes at St. Stephen.
Friends and family held a special place in Doris’ heart. Her most cherished childhood memories were in Skytex roaming the Creekside with her brothers, her sister, and her cousins. She always said, “those were the best times of my life.”
Bobo, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, as well as all her other family, was a feisty, spunky, loving lady. She spent much of her life at the bridge table, on the tennis court, and playing her favorite game of scrabble.
Her fondest memories were sitting around the quilting frame with “the girls” and taking trips with her gambling buddies. She was a wonderful mom, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brother, Don Bailey; in-laws, Floyd and Dorothy Rutter; sister-in-law, Connie Bailey; and brother-in-law, Jerry Webb.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Carrie Ellis and husband Randy of Amarillo, TX, and Leslie Goodrum and husband Kevin of Trophy Club, TX; brothers, Jack Bailey and Gary Bailey and wife Georgia all of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Linda Webb of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Shane Martel and wife Denise of Lubbock, TX, Todd Martel of Georgetown, TX, Ryan Goodrum of Dallas, TX, and Bailey Goodrum of Frisco, TX; nephews, Brett Webb and wife Jenni of McKinney, TX and Ben Webb and wife Karen of Lubbock, TX; along with 5 great-grandchildren and her precious cousins.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Harrington Cancer Center of Amarillo.
