Dorothy Spencer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born in Dalhart, Texas in 1930. She passed away surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, devotion, and quiet strength that will be cherished for generations.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 16, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Dorothy grew up in Dalhart, where she especially enjoyed attending the XIT Rodeo, a fond memory from her early years. After graduating high school, she moved to Amarillo, Texas, where she pursued her calling to care for others by attending the Northwest Hospital School of Nursing, earning her nursing degree. It was during her nursing career that she met the love of her life, Bill Spencer. The two were married in Clayton, New Mexico in 1950, beginning a beautiful union that lasted 66 years until Bill’s passing in 2016.
Committed to lifelong learning and service, Dorothy later attended Amarillo College, where she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing (AND). She dedicated much of her professional life to caring for children as a school nurse with Amarillo ISD, serving the community faithfully until her retirement.
Dorothy and Bill were devoted members of Paramount Baptist Church, where their faith guided their lives and service to others. Above all, Dorothy treasured her family. She was a constant source of love, wisdom, and encouragement. Her home was always a place to gather for holidays and meals on Sunday after church.
Dorothy is survived by her three children: Carolyn Jones; Charlotte and her husband Carter Ramzel; and Dr. John Spencer and his wife Darlene. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Dorothy Spencer will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her steadfast faith and love for Jesus, lending to the unwavering dedication to her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in honor of Dorothy’s commitment to caring for others.
