Dorothy Vearner, 92, of Amarillo, TX passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Shamrock Cemetery with Glen Switzer officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Dorothy was born November 21, 1932, in McLean, TX to Charles Theodore and Ida Mae Matthews. She attended school in Mobeetie and graduated from Shamrock High School.
Dorothy married Donald Ray Vearner on September 24, 1948, in Wheeler, TX. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2009.
Dorothy worked for Shamrock ISD for 14 years as a Special Education Aide. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where she helped with Awanas feeding the kids. After retirement she and Don traveled extensively and especially loved the mountains of Colorado and the Lake City/Creede area.
Dorothy loved to volunteer and help wherever she could. She was President of the Pioneer West Museum Board in Shamrock. She spent many hours working on improvements and displays at the museum. She loved gardening and arranging flowers. Her backyard was filled with many beautiful flowers and plants. She worked at Shamrock Greenhouse making arrangements and many homecoming mums.
More than anything she loved spending time with family. She was proud of each and every one of her children, grandchildren and especially the great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Mike Vearner in 2016, and siblings, Charles Matthews, Loretta Hiltbrunner, and Louise Bailey.
Survivors include daughters Patricia Hare of Cortez, CO, Trudy Switzer (Glen) and Alicia Marshall (Joe Don), all of Amarillo; son, K.C. Vearner (Susie), of Marble Falls, TX; sister, Juanelle Harris (Bobby) of Lake Livingston, TX; brother, Wallace Matthews (Karen) of Bryan, TX; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you to make donations to The Pioneer West Museum in Shamrock, Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation online or a charity of your choice.
