Douglas Wayne Blair

January 14, 1952 — July 30, 2025

Douglas “Doug” Wayne Blair, 73, of Amarillo, TX, went home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2025, peacefully surrounded by family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Hillside Christian Church Chapel, 6100 S. Soncy. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Doug was born January 14, 1952, to Roland and Madeline Blair in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He was raised in that area and never lost his Boston accent.

At a very young age, Doug began a long and successful career in the oilfield, starting at the bottom and working his way up to drilling consultant. His work spanned nearly 50 years and took him across the U.S. and internationally — including Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and a meaningful mission trip to Iraq, where he drilled water wells.

Doug married Carolyn Reynolds on March 19, 1983. They lived in Oklahoma and Wyoming and spent a memorable year together living in Venezuela — a time they cherished. Eventually, they made their way home to Sunray, Texas, before settling in Amarillo in 2010 to be closer to family.

Doug made Jesus Lord of his life in 1985, and was a devout member of Hillside Christian Church. He was a good and faithful servant, deeply committed to his faith and generosity for furthering the Kingdom of God.

Doug was proud of his family — his beautiful wife Carolyn, his children, and especially his grandchildren, who he loved to spoil.

He had a strong work ethic which he held no matter the job, always loyal and dependable. After retiring from the oilfield, Doug found joy working at Walmart, where he bonded with “his kids” who schooled him on the latest cool hairdo. He always had great hair! He also loved cooking and enjoyed his Roasters coffee each day with 4 espresso shots.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Roland Blair, and brother, Ronnie Blair.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Blair; son, Travis Powers (Chanda) of Cordell, OK; daughters, Tara Sparks (Jason) of Ephraim, UT, Mandy Cartrite (Kerry), and Misty Taylor, both of Amarillo; grandchildren, Ashley Arnett, Tristan Bolen (Daniel), Macey Cartrite (Travis), Landon Cartrite, Heather Mendoza, Lacey Beason (James), Lizzie Coltharp, Ben Sparks (Cassie), and Conner Sparks;

Great-grandchildren Hinah, Aliyah, Isabella, Savannah, Mia, Remy, and Sophie; mother, Madeline Blair of Mesa, AZ; sisters, Rolanda “Marie” Duchesne, Patricia Blair, and Karen Bliss; and brothers, Larry Blair and Steve Blair.

Memorials may be made to Hillside Christian Church youth, or a favorite charity.
