Dr. Jerry Whitehead, 84, of Perryton, TX died Monday, December 4, 2023.

A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 20, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Perryton with Rev. Richard Laverty officiating.

Jerry was born May 11, 1939, in South Bend, TX to James E. and Jesse (Reger) Whitehead.  Following college at TCU, he joined the Army serving in Alaska.  At the time of his honorable discharge, he had attained the rank of Captain.  Jerry furthered his education and graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA.

Jerry began a 52-year practice of chiropractic care in 1970, in Perryton.  He would open the Chiropractic Health Center where he served many patients throughout the community.

On May 26, 1965, Jerry married Judy Chamberlin.  They had three children, Jason, Jarel, and Janelle.

He held numerous leadership roles in the chiropractic profession over the years.  His love for chiropractic was most noted by his service as President of the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners, and also as an appointed member of the Texas Chiropractic College Board of Trustees.

Jerry was a member of Gideons, Lions Club, Perry Memorial Board, Perryton High School Art Board, and First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and teacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jason Whitehead; and his brother, Jim Whitehead.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Whitehead, of the home; children, Dr. Jarel Whitehead, of Perryton, TX, and Dr. Janelle Whitehead, of Grapevine, TX; a sister, Janice Henson, of Perryton, TX; and nine grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Perry Memorial Library, Perryton, TX; or to Gideons International.
