Eddie Wayne McMurray

Eddie Wayne McMurray, beloved husband, father, Papa, and friend to countless people, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, at the age of 78. While his family grieves his passing, they rejoice in the assurance that he is in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, reunited with loved ones including his four beloved brothers who went before him.

Eddie was born on October 8, 1947 in Lubbock, TX, to George Washington McMurray and Edna Mae Griffin McMurray. He was preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers, Skip, Larry, Gary, and David.

For 37 wonderful years, Eddie shared a loving marriage with his beloved wife, Karen Sue McMurray. Together they created a beautiful blended family built on love, laughter, faith, and unwavering devotion to one another. Their home was always a place where family and friends felt welcomed, accepted, and loved.

Eddie is lovingly survived by his wife, Karen: his daughters, Kim and husband, Mark Blankenship; Mandy and husband, Darin Plummer; Kristy and husband, Bruce Boyd; and his cherished bonus daughters, Tish and husband, Rick Thomason, and Cari and husband, Jason Ash.

Eddie and Karen were blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Jackson and wife, Taylor Blankenship; Shelby and husband, Darren Bruner; Payton Blankenship; Drew Tomlin; Jake Tomlin; Luke Tomlin; Carson Boyd; Blair Boyd; Sage Warner; Phebe Warner; Simone Warner; Ayden Ash; and John Christian Ash. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Blakely Ash and Emma Claire Blankenship, who brought him tremendous joy.

Eddie graduated from El Centro College and enjoyed a successful career as a National Sales Representative for Bolner's Fiesta Spice Company. His work allowed him to travel extensively, building lasting friendships and earning the respect of customers and colleagues throughout the country.

To know Eddie was to love him. He had an extraordinary gift for making every person he met feel like an old friend. His contagious laugh, unforgettable stories, quick wit, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He truly never met a stranger, and his kindness and genuine interest in others created friendships that spanned many states and lasted a lifetime. Even Jinks, his beloved cat and constant companion, knew that Eddie had the biggest heart in the room.

An avid golfer, Eddie found great joy on the golf course, especially when playing with family and friends. His son-in-law often proudly joked that Eddie was the only person he had ever known to make two holes-in-one—an accomplishment that perfectly matched Eddie's unforgettable spirit and love for the game.

Eddie was also a passionate American patriot. He loved his country deeply and never shied away from a spirited debate. His unwavering convictions were often shared through letters to the editor published in the Amarillo Globe-News, where he voiced his opinions with conviction and sincerity. His family smiles through their tears as they wonder how they will navigate the next election season without his wisdom, perspective, and wise counsel.

To his grandchildren, Eddie wasn't simply their grandfather—he was Papa. He was their biggest fan, always ready with a warm hug, an encouraging word, a laugh, or one of his famous stories. Whether cheering them on at a ballgame or dance recital, playing golf, or simply making them laugh with his playful antics, Papa had a special way of making each grandchild feel deeply loved. The memories they shared with him will forever remain treasured gifts.

Above all, Eddie's life was anchored by an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. He trusted the Lord through every season of life and lived with the hope and peace that comes from knowing Him. His family finds comfort in knowing Eddie is now healed, whole, and at home with his Savior. They smile through their tears as they imagine him reunited with his four brothers, enjoying a perfect round of golf together in Heaven.

Eddie's legacy is one of love, laughter, generosity, faith, and unwavering devotion to his family. He taught those around him to welcome others with open arms, to find joy in every day, and to treasure the people God places in their lives.

His family will forever cherish the laughter he shared, the example of faith he lived, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. Until they meet again, they find comfort in knowing that Heaven has welcomed home a beloved husband, Dad, Papa, and friend.

Memorial Service

A memorial service celebrating Eddie's life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Lakeridge Country Club, 8802 Vicksburg Ave. in Lubbock, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the AccentCare Hospice Foundation in honor of Eddie Wayne McMurray. The family is deeply grateful to the compassionate caregivers of AccentCare Hospice in Amarillo, whose extraordinary kindness, dignity, and constant care brought comfort and peace to Eddie and to all who loved him.
