Eddie Douglas Tinsley was welcomed home on April 7, 2026. He was born in Muleshoe, TX on January 26, 1949 to Clifford and Doris Tinsley. Eddie was the first born of four children and took pride in the big brother role.
He graduated from Frenship High School in 1967 and attended college for two years before being drafted to the United States Army in 1969. Eddie was deployed overseas to Vietnam soon after with the 11th Armored Calvary, Blackhorse regiment. He returned state side in February of 1971 where he completed his service receiving a full honorable discharge as a Sargent in July 1975.
After his service, Eddie held a few jobs that he enjoyed and excelled at before joining the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) in 1989. He had a passion for his career like no other, and it opened doors for him to become a Firearms Instructor, LEO Standards and Education Instructor, Chemical Agents Instructor and a host of other courses through Amarillo College. Eddie retired from TDCJ in 2009 having gained numerous lifelong friendships he deeply cherished.
Eddie was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Junior Tinsley and his mother, Doris Fern Herron Tinsley.
He is survived by his sweetie of 15 years, Shirley Henderson. Also, his three children, son Randy Tinsley and girlfriend Erica Trevino; daughter LaTisha Tinsley, and son Chris Tinsley. His grandson Kade Tinsley and fiancé Kloe Holt; granddaughter Karyn Tinsley, and honorary granddaughter Addie Trevino. His three siblings, sister Janet Gentry; sister Diana Martin, and brother Bobby Tinsley and wife Julie. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and his ex-wife Kathy Tinsley, mother of his children whom he held dear as well.
Eddie Tinsley was a true patriot and supporter of all first responders. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Eddie’s name to your favorite organization supporting veterans or first responders.
Visitation will be from 6-7 PM, Friday, April 10, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount. Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
