Edith “Ann” Rothkrug Warnecke, 73, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on June 16, 2024. 

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 20, 2024, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Father Anthony Neusch officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo. 

Ann was born in Roswell, New Mexico on July 27, 1950, to Patricia and Edward Rothkrug. She graduated from Tascosa High School in 1968 and went on the West Texas State University and graduated with bachelor’s degree in history in 1973. 

While her husband, Joe R. Warnecke, was in the Navy, Ann wrote for the Navy Seabee Newsletter. She also spent time helping people learn English as a second language. They were stationed in California, Hawaii, and Mississippi. She worked as an opinion journalist for Amarillo Globe News and The Canyon News. She retired from AISD as a substitute teacher. 

Ann loved her grandchildren and she spent every moment she could with them. 

Ann attended St. Mary’s Cathedral and St. Martin Catholic Church.

Ann’s family was able to donate her liver to help another family. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Lieutenant Colonel Edward Rothkrug, who died in 2005; and her mother, Patricia Ann Burns Rothkrug who died in 2020. Survivors include husband, Joe R. Warnecke; her children, Jeffrey David Warnecke, Hannah Marie Ramirez, and Will Avery Warnecke; her grandchildren, Dominic Miguel Ramirez, and Micah Alexander Ramirez; her sisters, Mary Harrison and husband Tom, and Jane Ellen Rothkrug; her nephews, Daniel Edward Rothkrug and wife Ann, and Jason Herring; and her niece, Amy Clayton. 

Ann loved to give to different charities. Specifically, St. Mary’s Cathedral Deaf and Hard of Hearing Ministry, St. Joseph’s Indian School, Doctors Without Borders, and countless others.
