Eugene “Clyde” Stickley, 95, of Amarillo, TX died Friday, December 1, 2023.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:30-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Clyde was born January 11, 1928, in Detroit, MI to Clyde David and Frances Pauline (Ridley) Stickley.

After graduating from high school, he began his military service in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class during World War II.  Though he served his country honorably, Clyde didn’t identify himself as a veteran solely because he didn’t experience active combat.

On a blind date Clyde met his future wife and business partner, Bettye Louise Evans.  They were married in 1956 and for 63 years remained devoted to one another until separated by her death in November 2019.

For forty-three years he worked for Santa Fe Railroad as a brakeman and conductor.  He also was a photographer, starting at the age of 10 and continued throughout most of his life.  He and Bettye owned Stickley Photo which allowed them to shoot hundreds of wedding photos, family reunions, anniversary portraits, and other special occasions.  For decades Clyde was active with the Amarillo Photographic Society and won several national awards for excellence in photography.

Clyde also was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Stickley.

He is survived by his daughter, Glenda Taylor, of Amarillo, TX; four grandchildren, Joshua Rudd, and Rowdy Pate, all of Amarillo, TX, Elizabeth Duerr, of Corning, NY, and Victoria Winfrey and husband John of Amersterdam; five great-grandchildren, Phoenix Rudd, Orlando Rudd, Kai Duerr, Ellie Duerr, and Bobby Duerr; his sister, Marie Stickley; and many nieces and nephews.
