Fonda Jean Griffin Goebel, 63, of Amarillo, TX., went home to her Heavenly Father on May 20, 2026. She was born November 11, 1962, in Guymon, OK., to Eugene and Molly Griffin and big sister Carol. In 1967 she got a baby brother, Allan.
Fonda’s dad worked for Southwestern Public Service Co. As a lineman. From Guymon, he was transferred to Muleshoe, TX. In 1971 they moved to Littlefield, where the girls began their education. As a 10 year old, she was very enthusiastic about running races with the other kids.
After 7 years in Olton, they moved to Bovina in 1977. Fonda’s hobbies at the time were bicycling, basketball, drawing, sewing, and crafts. She carried her love for running into high school with the Bovina Fillies, winning the state track and field title in 1978.
Carol, Fonda and Allan all graduated from Bovina High School and Fonda was an honor graduate of the class of 1981. Fonda played many instruments; the flute, oboe, baritone horn, and guitar. Her parents lived in Bovina for 9 years before moving to Startford while Fonda Studied art at West Texas State University. With an art degree almost in hand, she redirected into dentistry and became licensed as a dental hygienist.
Fonda met Ted Goebel while working – a friendship developed and they married on May 18, 1991. Their daughter, Joli Mikayla, was born March 5, 1998. Ted made his career at the Texas Workforce Commission, as a field tax auditor.
Fonda was a periodontal hygienist for over 30 years for Dr. Leonard Smith, DDS., MS. While dentistry was her field of work, art was always at her heart, being creative with the talent she possessed. Fonda was always seeing the potential in items to craft together and sell as a hobby. She enjoyed shopping, garage sales, and loved her dogs.
Fonda and her family took camping trips often to Colorado, New Mexico, and Arkansas. She and daughter Joli enjoyed going on multiple mother-daughter trips together. They went on a surprise trip to New Mexico to see Pentatonic and Kelly Clarkson in person for Joli’s first ever concert in 2014. She and Ted enjoyed the Albuquerque Balloon Festival. Fonda was also active in her church and Women’s Bible Study. And she loved her dogs.
Fonda is survived by her husband Ted Culver Goebel and daughter Joli Mikayla Goebel; her father and mother Harvey Eugene “Griff” and Olga “Molly” Griffin; sister Carol Renee (& Johnny) Saunders, all of Amarillo; and brother Murray Allan (& Amanda) Griffin of Little Rock, AR.
There will be a private burial before a memorial service at 11am, Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at South Georgia Street Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
