Frances “Granny” Maudene Young

Frances “Granny” Maudene Young, 87, of Amarillo, TX passed away on November 30, 2023.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, December 4, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Frances was born November 9, 1936, in Mercedes, TX to E.L. and Geraldine Rice. She met and married her best friend and the love of her life Clarence Young. They found their way to the big city of Amarillo Texas. They became pillars of the community where they would stay to raise their 2 kids, and eventually grandkids. They celebrated their 51

st

wedding anniversary just before his passing. Frances was a caring and loving mother, but when it came to those grandkids it was a whole new ballgame. Granny loved going to watch them play in their sports, or do concerts, or really anything they were involved in. She continued this with the great-grandkids as long as she was physically able to. She loved hard and she would do anything she could for anyone. But she wasn’t the one to mess with! She always had a plan and had thought of everything. Granny always gave the best advice when you were in a tough situation. The suggestions given really weren’t suggestions, more of expectations, given with a kiss and a smile. Frances was a long time Church of Christ member and has passed along strong morals and beliefs for those left to carry on her memory. She worked for a long time at Hastings Distribution Center, Kelly-Moore Paint, and Connell as a Bookkeeper. She also worked for Southwestern Bell as an operator when she lived in San Antonio, TX. She was a hard worker and fought hard right up until the last minute. She is resting now, without pain. Gone but never forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Young, 2 sisters, Pauline, and Sis,  and 2 brothers, Dickey and Jimmy.

Frances is survived by her children; son, Ronnie and wife Rita Young of Amarillo, and daughter Vicki and husband Rick Beck of Amarillo; grandchildren, Steven and wife, Christin Beck of Amarillo, Stephanie Beck of Amarillo, Tara Young and husband Brandon Clough of Denton, and Traci and husband Jake Dougherty of Amarillo, Meagan Ferril of Amarillo, and David and wife Jacy Ferril of Amarillo and; and 7 great-grandchildren Brayden Beck, Trae Ferril, Teagan Beck, Paetyn Rodriguez, Sadie Dougherty, Madelyn Dougherty, and Wyatt Dougherty.

The family suggests memorials be made to High Plains Childrens Home, 11461 S. Western St., Amarillo, Texas 79118.
