Garry Dale Wood

Garry Dale Wood, 68, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Garry was born to Cleo and C.A. “Woody” Wood on July 7, 1955, in Borger, Texas.  He loved being outside riding his bicycle, playing baseball, and running around with his neighborhood friends.  He was involved with the Boy Scouts earning his God and Country and Eagle.  He also enjoyed being an Indian dancer and spent many hours beading and creating his costumes.  He continued his love of the program and its values by being a scout leader for most of his adult life.

As a young boy, Garry began sweeping the floors at Woody’s Glass, his parents glass company in Borger, Texas.  He continued working with his parents at Glass, Inc. in Amarillo after their deaths and until his own.  Through the years he was blessed with employees he considered to be part of his family.

Garry was a lifelong Episcopalian.  He worked in many ways within the church.  In 2001 he attended Cursillo and was so moved by this ministry that he participated as a leader himself.  He always found a way to reach out, such as Christmas in April, but often his gifts were quietly given.

In 1978, Garry married Mary and they were blessed with 45 years together.  They have one son, Michael Wood, and two grandsons Aarin and Carwin (aka Sugar Bear 1 and Sugar Bear 2).

Garry was preceded in death by his parents Cleo and Woody Wood, his brother, Dr. Randy Cole and his sister Kristie Adams.

Garry was a joy to be around, always quick to laugh and will be missed by many.  Those who loved him will especially miss his warm loving heart as well as his embracing and infectious sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Michael; his grandsons Aarin and Carwin; his sister Marsha Hawkins and her husband Marc; his mother-in-law Jacquelyn Casal; and brother-in-law Brad Casal; many beloved aunties, uncles, nieces (Juliette, Stephanie, Rebecca and Allison), nephews (Marc, Matt and Braden) and many cousins. His circle of friends is far reaching.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Faith City Mission.
